| Ive only seen it a few times...but OMG it is so bad
WHY does the BBC think a childrens (toddlers) TV show which uses words such as wagwan and wassup is a good idea!?
I do not want izzy using stupid words like this...what is wrong with using proper words?! |

| I know it's so annoying! Luckily Imogen has decided Cbeebies is far too babyish and will only watch Cbbc. I haven't had to watch Rastamouse, Mr Tumble or Mr Blooms Nursery in about 3wks now it's been bliss I have got really into the Sarah Jane Adventures though which is a little sad of me |

| The reason it pees me off is they use different prairie dogs the whole time, and the one Snow is so obviously a womans voice, but they refer to it as the other ones brother! I know lots of kids things use woman for voices, but its so obvious! Even Izzy has noticed that |

| There are other things on tv other than Peppa Pig? Seriously though, im like most of you ladies, there are the few that are good for the kids but the others are awful. Aimee is in to Justins House at the moment and she also loves Pink Panther which is on BBC2 at about 11.30, so I record that as we are normally in the car on the way home from work then. x |

| I actually quite like rastamouse and don't mind a bit of exposure to other cultures. I was really disappointed when I found out the guy who does the voice isn't a rasta though!
There's a strong rasta contingent in a couple of areas of Sheffield and they really do speak that way. The words they use like wagwan and irie are accepted patois terminology. Having said that we don't go around randomly speaking French when there's an English alternative so I do get the point a bit (ahem, Dora...)
At first I was quite shocked and wondered if it was racist but once I'd watched it, it doesn't say anything bad about Rastas, its just some mice who speak differently and wear that sort of clothes, you don't see them hanging around smoking pot etc. I would be more annoyed if it was "pikeymouse", taught children to say innit and get drunk on street corners.
This is coming from someone who objects to Shameless, Royle Family and Emerdale because I think those programmes normalise scummy behaviour and make all northerners out to be unwashed fucktards, so take from that what you will! |

| The difference between Dora and Ratsa is that Dora teaches an actual language that is useful and really no one would mine if your kid learnt some spanish! Rasta uses words that are not any language, just slang and I couldn't give a fiddlestick if that is the 'slang' that minorities use - it is not proper words and not proper English, so why would anyone want their kid using these words. Slang changes all the time (hence why film writers have to get youths in to tell them the 'correct' slang to use - so next year the 'words' they use won't be up to date! I don't think it would be hard for the Rasta writers to use 'what's going on?' instead of 'wagwan' to be honest - and its a kids programme so hardly going to insult anyone who actually says wagwan etc! Also wagwan and wasup are youth slang, not just Rasta slang, so the 2 do not have to be linked for Rasta mouse to be what it is meant to be As far as I see it the BBC is supposed to provide educational programmes for children, not programmes that use slang cos its 'current' Oh and Em I HATE all soaps I cringe at Shameless but it does make me laugh! |
