It depends how lazy I am. I make my own bolognaise sauce and cheese sauces, I occasionally buy ready made carbonara if I can't be bothered to make one and usually do tomato based ones myself as I grow my own tomatoes at home so it's a good way of using them. I don't like the dolmio sauces much but sometimes buy the Lloyd grossman tomato and basil if I'm in a rush

I've cracked mine and love it.

I fry off an onion, 2 crushed garlic cloves (there is a trick to this heat the oil up and fry and soften the onion. Then turn the heat off and add the crushed chopped garlic, the garlic will cook in the heat from the sauce but letting it cook in hot oil whilst it cooks will make it sweet and not bitter)

once the garlic is soft (add your mince and brown) then add a tin of tomatoes, 1 tbls of tomato puree and a carton of passata. A tps of mixed herbs, and 2 bay leaves and 300ml of beef stock. stir together then bring to the boil once bubbling turn down the heat and let it simmer until thickened.

If you want it spicy just add some mixed peppercorns to it

we usually make our own cos i think jarred ones are not very nice, and salty and ummmm gooey? Laughing

my tried and tested recipe goes like this:

passatta or chopped tomatos with crushed garlic, tear up some basil leaves and a dollop of olive oil

add a teaspoon of sundried tomato paste if you have it

fry some onions and whatever else (tomatos, meat, mushrooms Wink peppers, broccoli, courgette, aubergine, grated carrot, whatever you have kicking around really Laughing

you can add other stuff to change the taste a bit or put more/less of any ingredients in so go for about 4 garlic cloves haha

you can add creme fraiche, cream or philidelphia if you want it creamy (don't let it boil if you do and mix really well) or chilli powder if you want it a bit spicy (or add chopped peppered salami or something like that).

takes about 10 minutes to do, all you need to do is soften the veg as much as you want them (i like them still a bit crunchy) and the pasta can cook while you are doing it. you can also freeze it if you make loads or put it in the fridge for a few days Smile

oh and you can also make the basic garlic/tomato/oil mixture and put it on pizza bases then just add veg/meat/cheese Smile
