hrm, i know susan has done this - does anyone have tips on making trousers that have a normal jersey waistband but just a strip of elastic inside into adjustable trousers? im not sure where to start but a couple of elijah's pairs of cords are too tight in the tummy but fine elsewhere (stupidly made i think the waist has always been tight despite being 'up to 2 years')

so how do i start? where do i sew the buttons? is the elastic likely to frey if i just snip it to use as button holes???

The easiest way is to make 'pipes' for the elastic, that gets sewn on to the back of the wasit band, adding the proper button elastic before sewing in

Then stitch the button in place on the side just in front of the end of the tubing , then stitch the elastic in front of the button

Its a very easy and quick job, but thats coming from me lol

If they are too tight round the waist is that gonna work, its usually for trousers that are too big round the waist?

Do you mean add stretchy panels at sides, bit like on some maternity jeans? No clue how you would go about that but.

yeah i think what lisa says should work because even the waist of the trousers aren't that small as it bunches up so when i snip the elastic they will automatically become too big if that makes sense so then i will need to tighten them for a while til they fit - lengthwise and bumwise they are still huge though!
