My oh is wanting to breed our black lab, he's done lots of research about it and she is due in season any day now. I just wondered if anyone had been through it before?
She is at the vets today having her hip scores done! I felt bad leaving her, it was like leaving a child at nursery for the first time lol

But ive experienced loads of csections when puppies died etc and its heartbreaking so you have to remember that could happen. we recently had a lab in that had 11 pups and one survived only to die later on. Obviously this might have no been at the top of the owners mind but that c section cost her 800 quid and she never made one penny from the pups either. insurance wont cover that.

However labs are a breed that normally give birth quite easily.

remember that if she does have a large litter she will be so weak from feeding them all you might have to help - every 2 hours through the night feeding more than one baby.

Personally I couldnt do it because I wouldnt have the time and I just couldnt cope if something went wrong.

But after all this bad stuff I must say watching an animal give birth is the best part of my job and I absolutely LOVE scanning dogs and seeing all the little pups wiggle around and seeing their little hearts beating away.

If your hearts set on it go for it but read lots and lots on it.
