| I was in the shop earlier with Chloe and there was a woman in her early 60's in an electric wheelchair and she was talking to Chloe and was wheezing really badly and coughing and told me she had severe lung problems and I felt quite sorry for her. Anyway we got in the queue behind her and she was chatting to the guy behind the counter and said my usual please 60 Mayfair Now sorry if this offends anyone but I was gobsmacked, the woman could barely breathe yet was buying cigarettes. To me that's just stupid! Why would you do that knowing that it's making your condition a million times worse. It really annoyed me! |

| Do you know what else I find weird? My Aunty died 4 years ago basically of lung cancer from smoking, the night she passed away she couldn't get enough oxygen so basically smothered herself, my grand parents saw what she went through and yet they still smoke! I don't get it! |

| Hmmm well as a smoker I totally get what your saying but I certainly don't agree with that if your a smoker and you get I'll you shouldn't get nhs treatment!!! I got hooked at 11 years old when I knew no better and have tried so many things to stop, some people find it easy to stop smoking, others like me find it near on impossible! I hate being judged for being a smoker. Also for anyone to be able to say things like that they have to be pretty perfect, no fatty foods, no alcohol etc, have to have a perfect lifestyle and diet otherwise we could go down the route of well people who do such and such shouldn't get treatment on the nhs!! |

| I used to smoke Donna and I'm not judging smokers as a whole it's just with her being so ill that I couldn't believe she was still smoking. It's kind of like me breaking my leg then getting Matt to kick me in it every day, you know it's going to hurt so why do it! |

| Yes like I said I totally get what your saying, it does seem wrong even to me, but I know how hard I find it to stop smoking, I would love to stop, I hate it I know it's bad for me, it stinks but I cannot give up, I have tried and tried, I guess my point is maybe that's what this woman is like, we just look at someone that is doing something we don't agree with or wouldn't do ourselves and automatically judge them for it, and we all do it, but maybe if we actually think about it, it's not always as simple as that! | I guess I don't really get that as when I decided to stop I did it, it wasn't easy but I refused to give in to it. I just couldn't imagine being in a position where I knew something was killing me yet I carried on doing it.
I know we shouldn't judge but I bet every single person on here has judged somebody rightly or wrongly at some point |

| Course we have Mandy we all judge, it wasn't actually your post that annoyed me lol, it was the post about not getting nhs treatment, that's a very narrow minded opinion (no offence shev ) you have a very valid point to be fair x |

| i hate people like that....they expect hospitals to 'fix' themselves when they can't even bother to stop smoking
in his last week my dad could barely breathe and has bad chest infection....did he stop smoking? nope...only in the last few days when he physically didn't have the strength to lift a cigarette did he stop |

| I didn't mean that smokers shouldn't get NHS treatment, just people that aren't going to help there condition by doing such thing if you get what I mean xx |

| i never meant that either...i more meant that when the nhs struggle to help them, it doesn't occur that what they're doing to themselves could be antagonising the problem |

| Have to say im a non smoker but without the revenue from fag sales the nhs would be even worse off than it is already. Not that thats a good reason to smoke yourself to death just a thought on the whole NHS treatment thing |

| My friends dad had emphysema and he carried on smoking till he died, my friend still smoked too, but when you smoke you know it's bad for you but it doesn't stop you doing it in the first place. |

| I understand what you mean, why should the NHS spend huge amounts of money on those that dont want to help themselves.
As for 'they shouldnt start in the first place', although I agree to some extent, 20-30 years it wasnt classed as such a health risk, my parents smoked around 20 cigarettes a day - in the house, in the car with windows closed etc, it was that bad I would complain of my eyes hurting, headaches etc. but they thought I was just whinging. My Mum has been stopped now for 15ish years and whenever I say about people smoking around children she says she feels awful that she used to.
My Dad was also diagnosed with emphysema about 10 years ago and stopped straight away.
I've never smoked (growing up around it put me off for life!!), but seeing Simon give up I can only imagine how hard it is. |

| im a smoker and i did stop when pregnant eventually i found it very hard and i have no will power its a case of either you can or you cant.
My mum - when she had cancer was told not to stop as the treatment would make her so ill she needed to have something she enjoyed (it also wasnt smoking related)
where as my dad and grandad can / did stop at the flick of a switch i cant i find it hard and i become an ogre.
I dont enjoy it i know i am damaging myself but like i say its not easy what is easy is for non smokers and people who find it dead easy to say just stop its killing you well try being one of those that find it bloody hard
That is just my view from a smoker and from someone that has tried many times
Donna did you manage to stop when pregnant i finally stopped that one a day at 20 weeks and I know I will get shot down for it in a big way
