| If you don't mind answering, who do you have your insurance with and how much do you pay? I've got to get some today and have no idea what i'm doing and how much it should be. Also should I get accidental damage cover? and how much should my voluntary excess be?
thanks in advance |

| We've got buildings and contents and pay around £300ish a year for both.
Personally I would only have accidental damage, it's such a better cover and especially with 2 little ones it's invaluable.
As for excess, I've never gone with a voluntary excess, companies usually have a compulsory excess of between £50 -£100 (the ones I deal with anyway - some may have more).
The other thing to consider is 'All Risks' or Personal Belongings', which is cover for items that you usually take while out and about (handbag, purse, mobile phone, jewellery, even covers luggage), usually £3,000 of cover. |

| I pay £64 a year for mine. I didnt bother with accidental damage cover because we dont own anything expensive that we cant replace. SO it is literally just incase theres a fire or we ger robbed x |

| I only insured for £9000 worth of contents. I added things up - laptops, phone, sofas etc and it really didn't add up to a lot. That dropped my quote a bit. I didn't do things outside the house like shed/garage (we have a outside cupboard but nothing of value in there).
I didn't go through half the things your list mentioned Snoops. Sounds like yours it very comprehensive, but might be worth reviewing it as you might not need to cover all of those things. |

| Iv read through it and think im insured for £50k total contents & then they break it down into all those categories....
We literally own electrical things eg TV/DVD/laptop/camera/phones etc, cot, prams, clothes, toys, kitchen things like plates, kettle, toaster, ornaments, CD's/DVD's.... How the heck I decided that was worth £50k 2 years ago is beyond me!
The landlord owns beds, sofa's, cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher, washing machine, tables, lamps. Most things in garage are his eg tools/paint etc Outside we have trampoline and a few cheap plastic toys but £200 would cover it.
Prob too late to change as only renewed recently. Bugger!!!

| Snoops you've got what is called 'blanket' cover where you're covered comprehensively as standard (so you wouldnt be able to delete any aspects as they are just part of the policy), the policies are basically to fit a wide range of tennants/homeowners and are usually just rated on 'risk factors' rather than cover if that makes sense?? |

Honestly hun thats a really low sun insured, its not just the big things you need to consider, if you imagine (heaven forbid) that the entire property and contents went due to fire etc. you would have to replace EVERYTHING even down to your toothbrushes, cover is also new for old so even if you paid, for example, £100 for second hand sofas the cost to replace would be alot more. You're also responsible for the carpets too so for every room that would soon add up. xx |

So do you think im over protected or its quite a good/wise policy? I get the blanket thing as there is no way I sat 2 years ago and asked for shrubs to be covered . I do remember however agreeing that £50k would cover everything - hey if there's a fire im claiming we dress head to toe in designer clothes! |

We have over £1500 just of bikes - which is why I got that extra! |

We've got a very similar cover to what you have too xx |
