Ive had my cv on line for a couple of months now and yesterday I was contacted about a job which would be perfect, I'm wondering what to do? Do I go for it and not mention the pregnancy or would that be wrong? I really don't know what to do!

Kell, you don't have to mention the pregnancy till 15 weeks (I think) I wouldn't tell yet, let them judge you on who you are and not the pregnant lady.

I was talking to my oh about this when Charlotte was pregnant and was starting a new job. Oh is an employer and he said if they started a new member of staff who turned out to be pregnant, and was off out on medical appointments etc then after the 3 month trial she would lose her job as I wouldn't want to keep training someone up and interviewing and rather have someone would stay.

Hopefully other employers are better than my oh! I think bigger companies can deal with better and wouldn't dare appear to discriminate against a female member of staff.

hey kell..thats what i was worried about! erm i would go for the interview and see what happens from there as u never know it might not be suitable or you may not be the right person for the job (not meaning to sound horrible)..and then if u get offerd it and u think its right id say go 4 it and then before u start showing tell them and say you only found out a week ago or sumthin? x x

Go for it! You're not obliged to mention that you're pregnant so I would just go for it and see what happens. My boss told me that she once went for some high powered job and was offered it when she was 5 months pregnant and only told them after she had signed everything so she was only there about a month before she left for mat leave. But she had to go for it as it was a great opportunity xxx

Go for it. You dont have to tell your boss you are pregnant until 15 weeks before you would be taking mat leave eg 20 wks +.

I wouldnt mention it until after contract signed if you do get it. I went for an interview at 12 wks pg this time and got the job. I already knew the manager and only told her a week or 2 before I started and she didnt mind. It was for a casual position eg as & when hrs so I thought that was maybe why it wasnt an issue.
Next thing I know im being offered a 6mth contract by head office with much better pay, guaranteed hrs etc I had to turn it down as I was due in 4mths and couldnt fulfil it - and they got back to me and offered me that I could work up until I wanted to go on mat leave. Now they have extended my contract by 1 year to cover maternity leave (unpaid unfortunatly), this means I can apply for internal posts, & build up sick, holiday & mat rights if I do get another job in the company next year They also put me through loads of training courses and gave days off for MW app's without fuss.

I really cant fault them. They have been brill considering they didnt know I was 3 mths pg when applied. Only thing is its social services/NHS I work for so I suppose they are maybe at the better end of the scale for covering themselves with womens rights etc.

Def go for it. Not all employers discriminate, some may even say you in a good position being pg as they are too scared to get rid incase you sue and so bend over backwards for you! Dont feel bad about being pg!!!! Your OH is free to apply for new jobs and he having a baby too, just because you are carrying it shouldnt mean your whole life is on hold for 9 months - your still a person with rights!!!

Oh and you prob wont be entitled to mat pay if you do get it . I found that company mat pay only applied if you had 1 years service, for SMP you basically had to be employed by them at time of conception & Mat allowance you had to have worked anywhere for 26 wks out of the last 66wks (I hadnt, maybe you have?).

Buy they still have to give you up to a years leave unpaid.

Just realised you are worrying about this at 6 wks pg.... and im going for a job interview next wk at 39 weeks pg, think they'll notice???

Its for the same ppl I already work for but. Im really creaming the 'dont you dare discriminate card' hehe. Its for a years waiting list but so a little different I guess. When pg with Caitlin I didnt bother applying for new jobs, now I wish I had. Dont let opportunities pass you by. x
