PostSubject: Familes at christmas time!   Familes at christmas time! EmptyTue Dec 13, 2011 2:03 am

soo i know i may sound like a big scrouge here but i cant be botherd going to my familys house on christmas day!
the past few years we've done the rounds of going to see my family in the morning (which was an hour drive) and then back again to OH's family in the afternoon (another hour back) and i just really cant be botherd this year! all i want to do is stay at home and chill out and let jamie run around with all his new presents and things and just do what WE want to do and not what every1 else wants to do 4 once! is that selfish of us?

i dont drive so it means makin my OH drive to and from my sisters house which means he wouldt be able to have a drink and relax and also he never feels fully comfortable around my family as it is as he has this fear of bein around alot of people other than his family, so now hes dreadin xmas day and will be a grump and on egde and i just want him 2 enojy it!

what wud u do in my sistuation? be honest please dont worry bout hurtin my feelings by sayin im being selfish..i just dont know what 2 do!? x x

Stay at home hun....this year I have put my foot down and have said to my family if they want to see us they have to come to us.

Every year since I moved out it's been me going to my mums, then my dads and then my brothers, if we did it this year it would mean Chloe being in and out of the car and that's not fair so I put my foot down.

Do what you want to do

we having a big family xmas this year, my dad, bro, sil and nieces and we all looking forward to it, because we live 2 mins away from each other, we going at 7am and staying till really late, this will be the first xmas we spend it together for a very long time, because we have lived an hours drive from each other, and we always feel that it should be the kids xmas not everyone elses.

however on xmas eve we doing a mammoth run of family visits, graveyards and the mil (joy) so we dont have to do it xmas day

do what makes you feel comfortable as a family of 3, everyone else will have to fit around you xx

Stay at home.

I really believe Christmas is for children and family (and by that i mean you, OH and son!) The way I was brought up was that we all stayed home at Christmas and if people wanted to see us they came over.. So usually my grandparents came in the morning or for lunch. OH and I have decided we're going to do the same from now on. Last few years we've been out and about and altho it was fun it's too much when you've got a child that just wants to play with their toys. We're seeing family in the days after which actually works out as it spreads the presents out a bit Smile

You have to do what is best for you, Oh and your child, not what others want you to do.

I would tell family that now you have a family of your own you will be staying at home for jamies sake but ppl are welcome to come visit. Since having tyler I've told my family they can come to us for lunch and to see tyler open his presents but that we won't be going anywhere, then we go to my mums for boxing day.

I totally agree... stay at home. Christmas is about doing what you want to do and whats best for your little man. I wouldnt put my kids in the car for 2 hours on Xmas day as I want them to play with their pressies as much as possible.

I agree, stay at home. We are this year (we haven't got a car now nor can afford to hire one so that's good)

This year is the Christmas where Drew will be more aware of what's going on and will want to play with his new toys so we said to family if you want to see us either see us before or after and let us know which day cuz if it's not on the calendar it's not happening lol. Going to see the in-laws on the Thursday, My mum's popping over on the Friday, Saturday is just us chilling or we might go to the in-laws then they've not got back (grr) and Sunday, Christmas Day, is ours to enjoy. 100% jammie day and boxing day is ours too unless my aunt pops over (another one who's not let us know lol) xxxxxxxxx

thats sounds nices and organised!! wish we were like that..im working xmas eve and boxin day so xmas day really is our only time 2gether as a family over xmas!
my mum will go mad wen i tell her we're not going..she seems to blame every decision i make that she doesnt like on my OH sayin hes makin me do it blah blah! shes got serious issues with men since hers left her 4 sum1 else! which i do understand but there not all the same! and also she would be on her own on xmas she's gonna be with my 2 other sisters and there partners along with the 4 kids and my dad (her ex) lol.

so think the best thing is not 2 mention anythin till next week as jamies party is on sunday and i dont want any rows on his bday so mayb il tell her like next wed..leave it as late as poss lol! tbh we cant even really afford the petrol money to get there and back anyway! plus we've not been ablbe 2 buy any1 gifts this year as we're so skint so thats another thing that makes me not wana go!
wish me luck in tellin them all next week..im gonna friggin need it! x x x

Stay home toots..and save your visiting for either boxing day, or another day. There is nothing worse than having to pack up your kids and make them leave their loot piles on the same day they got it..and have to drag them to relatives homes. It's already a long day..and the kids are so exhausted, as well as you, to have to go anywhere. If anyone insists on seeing you guys..they can make the effort. With all the parties..shopping..xmas prepping for that one day, it's actually nice to stop and enjoy it instead of feeling obligated to go out. I don't even make the turkey dinner till the next day now because it's just way too much to cram in one day. Make it special, for you and yours. xxx

i would just stay home and maybe make the visits on boxing day/27th??

we're driving cross country for xmas and going from pillar to post and i'm really not liking it, it feels mean giving the kids all of these cool toys and then dragging them off for visits before they can play with them

i had a rule even before gracie was thought about that the day i had children, if family wanted to see us then they would have to come to us, i will not take her away from her toys on Christmas Day, so we do it that one year my parents come to us on the big day then we go to marc's parents on Boxing day then next year they swap
