| Feel free to add.... First ones are from www.doingstuffwithkids.com - where you can subscribe to their weekly newsletter Indoor Activity | | Wild Wheels You will need: Something to make a ramp with Everything that rolls Boys in particular love anything with wheels. Make a temporary ramp from whatever you have to hand, such as a plank of wood, large box or stiff piece of card. Make one end higher than the other using a piece of furniture, box or blocks. Then collect together anything that will roll - cars, trucks, balls, blocks. Roll the cars etc down the ramp - hours of noisy fun.
Indoor Activity | | Kitchen Chaos What you need: Pots and pans with lids Kitchen utensils such as a whisk and wooden spoon A small quantity of dry food such as pasta, beans or cereal Small children love using grown-up things. The kitchen is usually out of bounds, but pots and pans make terrific playthings. Expect this play to result in lots of noise, role playing, fitting lids to the correct size of pot, transferring small items using spoons... and much more. I suggest that you encourage your little ones to play this game directly on a rug or carpeted floor to dampen some of the noise. | | | Outdoor Activity | | Bowling You will need:A ball Plastic bottles with lids such as soft-drink bottles Water This a a very basic version of ten-pin bowling. Put a small amount of water in the plastic bottles so that they do not tip over too easily, and use these as skittles. Set them up in a group and bowl the ball along the ground to knock them over.
Outdoor Activity | | Water Painting What you need: Paint brush Bucket of water Many parents are not keen on doing painting with their kids because of the mess. A clean, fun alternative is for them to use a paint brush and water outside. They can paint water pictures onto any flat surface or use the brush and water to clean their bike, toys or even the wall of the house. | | |

You will need: Computer Internet access
If you are looking for a nice quiet activity which is particularly good during the witching hour, sitting with your toddler or preschooler and watching YouTube videos about their favorite things is a great option. The video are short which means no-one gets bored.
WARNING - Some mean-spirited people will sometimes put scary images into YouTube videos which children are likely to watch. To avoid falling into this trap, read the comments on the video before opening it. us. |

Wash the car
You will need: Car or other vehicle (even a trike will do) Bucket Sponge
Fill the bucket with soapy water and ask your little one to wash the wheels wile you do the rest of the car. Young children love to help out so get them involved when you can. At first they will create more work than assistance...that's part of the fun, but eventually they will be more help than work. |

| Indoor Activity
|
| Indoor Treasure Hunt
You will need: Small plastic objects for older children or Large soft toys for younger children
Hide the objects in places you are happy for your child to rummage in. For younger children make the hiding places more obvious. This is a great opportunity to teach your child about direction, ie. give clues using "behind", "under" etc for younger children and "left" and "right" for slightly older children.
A fun variation for children how are picky or difficult eaters is to use wee snack-sized pieces of food as the treasure, which they must have a taste of before they move on to the next snack. |
Outdoor Activity
|
| Name writing
You will need: Water Water pistol or empty, clean squeezy bottle
This is a great activity for children who are learning their alphabet. Find an area of driveway or pavement that is safe from traffic and get your child to practice writing their names using the water pistol. Ask her to write the letter that sounds like... or write the letter that "cat" starts with...or write the letter which come after...
