| This last week Thomas seems to have been feeding constantly and not settling after feeds unless he's on me. I leave him till he comes off himself and he usually goes on both sides then often goes asleep but if I try and put him down anywhere he just screams and sticks his hand in his mouth and starts sucking on it so I end up feeding him again. Now I'm not sure if he's hungry or using me for comfort He seems to go back asleep quite quickly if I feed him again. We've just been out and I've bought him a dummy, didn't want to as I thought it might affect him feeding but I've just sterilised it and given it to him and he's settled straight away and nodded off in his bouncy chair (he's had a feed). So does this mean he is just using me for comfort? He sleeps fine at night now after some work and just wakes once for a feed so that's going well, it's just during the day that I'm a bit demented because I can't put him down or get anything done and I've got Stephen to think of too. So do I keep going with the dummy or is he not getting enough food? I'm getting him weighed tomorrow hopefully as he was being monitored with his weight at first but he's been putting it on steadily. Any tips or advice much appreciated! xx |

| Yep, sounds like he's using you as comfort hun. Dexter was exactly the same but just would not have a dummy - drove me mental! I ended up unfortunately letting him sleep on me just to get some peace and quiet, it was tough though so definately dont recommend it.
Basically what I'm saying is, if he's settling with a dummy then brilliant!! I'm sure he wouldnt settle if he was actually hungry? |

| Amelia used to feed like this in the evening, so much so that I thought there's no way on earth she could still be hungry and that she was using me for comfort. I just kept on feeding and feeding and trying to put her down until she eventually did stay asleep when I put her down. She stopped after a while but did it again a few times during growth spurts. She didn't have a dummy but if it's working then go with it x |

| See how long he sleeps - if he has a good sleep then he was definitely full and just using you for comfort. Obviously if he was still a bit hungry then he won't sleep as long. I found dummies a godsend to be honest!
At bedtime we had this ritual of trying to get Imogen as full as possible for maximum sleep duration. Feed, burp, feed, burp, no you can't go to sleep yet, feed, burp, feed, burp, bed! |

| Well when he's asleep on me he can sleep for a good couple of hours so I presumed he wasn't still hungry then? Well I gave him the dummy before for 10 minutes, he let it fall out of his mouth and I didn't put it back in and he's been asleep ever since, over an hour so I'm hoping that means he was full and just wanted it for comfort x |

| I've been using it for the odd 10 minutes here and there and he's started to settle into a bit of a routine with feeds and sleeping now so fx it carries on! Thanks everyone xx |

| Feed the baby regularly, either with breast milk or artificial milk. Some babies prefer breast milk to artificialmilk, they want to get the warmth and closeness of the mom, and so if baby is on breast milk, breast feed her so she/he can be calm. |

| Defiantly a comfort thing. H does not have a dummy but likes to be swaddled whilst sleeping |
