Im gutted..........I think puss is gonna have to go back to the cats protection!!

Shes just scratched Isla across the side of her face cos Isla grabbed her tail !

I know Isla shouldnt have done it and I was telling her no when it happened.........

I feel so shit its untrue.......firstly because shes scratched, and secondly the cat is lovely when Isla isnt chasing her.........but how do i stop a toddler!!!?????

oh no, how old is she (the cat) is it a kitten that can learn to avoid her?

we have 2 cats but they were both here before Alice, they both tolerate her and TBH i thinks its been easir that they were here first because its not been a new exciting thing for her to grab etc
They havent ever been scratchers ours, the big one will bat her with his paw if she does his head in but we also have said that if she does get a little scratch it might teach her not to annoy them
(i hope that doesnt sound terrible)

she still does chase them around the garden but in the most part they just ignore one anther.

Errrrrrrrrm oh dear. Cerys also goes after my 2 cats. They havent swiped her yet. They just run away thank god. I think if its already happened then the cat will learn to stay away from Isla and also Isla will think twice now about going near puss. Honestly dont give up yet, I've had cats all my life and this is just teething probs. The cat WILL learn to tolerate her xx

personally i would give it a bit more time. It was just a gut reaction from the cat. I honestly think the cat will avoid her from now on. If mine are on the sofa and they see Cerys approaching they bugger off straight away Laughing xx

Poor Isla,

i dont know hun, i think that is your call i understand exactly about not wanting to risk another scratch tho.

maybe see how they go for the rest of the day/ weekend, if isla still tries to grab her then you know how the cat will retaliate and thats the worry.

As i said mine just avoid/run off if she is getting excitable.

I would give it a bit more time too.

Oscar our car is nearly 7 years old he tolerates most of what Rowan does to him but he has scratched Rowan alot.

Isla will learn not to pull or hurt the cat and the cat is still quite young and so she needs to learn too.

My two avoid Wil for the most part but a couple of times when he won't give in they have taken a swipe at him but they always do it with their claws retracted.

Spend some time with Isla and the cat together and show Isla how to behave around the cat.

They will learn to live together and in the meantime just make sure they are never left alone together.

I would give it a little longer.

They will both learn from their lessons and the cat will soon learn to go and chill out in a room where Isla cant get her.

We have got 3 cats and they are all tolerant of Aimee and have learned to avoid her.

I think I would give it a bit longer too hun, we have a cat and he's an outdoor cat so Libby didn't really 'meet' him til this summer, he is a bit of a jekil and hyde and for the most part is lovely but has gone for her a couple of times (luckily only scratched her arm). Now she won't go near him and if she sees him in the garden she'll squeal to scare him away Cats & Kids - Help!! Updated - lol x Icon_rolleyes

I know it must of been a shock that it was so close to her eye, but they will both learn how to be around each other (I'm sure). xx

Hi

I've got two and for the majority of the time we all get on. My older cat, Baby has scratched ellie twice as ellie had her cornered. There was no real harm but a bit of blood was drawn. My other puss, freya, plays with ellie. I think maybe give it a bit longer. Maybe try to teach isla to be very gentle and also let pussy know you're the boss.

I really hope you can work this out, but if not, I'm sure cats protection would re home puss in a home without little ones.

Maybe you could think of a kitten.

Thanks everyone, ive not had a cat before (OH has) so I wasnt sure if this was normal or not......im reassured by your comments to keep trying for now!

I also phoned up cats protecton, and they said to trim the front claws whilst the 'learning' process is happening.........im not sure what do you all think??

I googled 'cat scratching' also and came across lots of sites advertising 'soft claws'.........lol go have a look!! Ive ordered some but my OH thinks im totally off my rocker.......I wll try and post the link (pmsl - ive ordered red!!)

http://www.spuk.com/

They won some awards for best pet product.....or do u agree with my oh that im a bit of a plonker! Cats & Kids - Help!! Updated - lol x Icon_lol

Lol... I would love to be a fly on the wall when you are trying to put them on. My cats would take my eyes out if I tried it. Make sure you update when they arrive x

I think i would hold off on the soft claws for now to be honest. Dont put them on just yet and see how things go with out them, i dont think you will need them to be honest. Like others have said its a learning curve for Isla and the cat Isla will learn that she cant pull tails and the cat will very likely take to avoiding Isla. My cat is 8 now and she avoids children , if they come in the room then she runs away lol. The cat only reacted with a scratch because it was feeling threatened and probably a little scared . Definately to early to be thinking of taking the cat back.
