a student nurse in september! Just recieved an unconditional offer from the university of leeds I'm happy but when i went to my interview, i felt sooo old! I'm only 22! ALL the girls were still at school, and i was the only one from about 30 that wouldn't be living at halls which has got me really scared. I don't want to be the only one not living in halls and going out partying a lot. I can just see everyone else going to the pub and parties after uni while i travel home feeling all isolated

Lisa it will be a different student life for you but being a student nurse is far from what you would expect of normal uni life! I doubt there will be too much of a drunken social life unless the people don't want to pass, nhs degrees are very demanding! Huge congratulations on your place!! Do you mind me asking why you changed your mind on midwifery?

Congratulations hun. When I went to uni I didnt stay in halls as oh was at a different uni and I thought moving in the opposite direction was going to be too hard. It was actually great, I must have been one of the only students who actually had loads of money lol x

That's great. Congratulations. I doubt you'll be the only one not drinking. I've got a friend training to be a peds nurse at the moment and also working so she's never out

Thanks girls! Erm, i changed to nursing for quite a few reasons! The main one though is because a few of my friends have qualified as midwives and paedriatic nurses and not one have managed to get a job. Only one person out of the whole of their cohorts got one, so everyone tried reapplying to uni to do other courses and all got rejected. One friends working at their old job in a soft play centre and the others can't find any job at all because they're now "over qualified." I just really didn't want to risk that. I researched adult nursing and at Leeds 100% of students last year got jobs within 6 months and i looked on the nhs job page and there was plenty of nursing jobs available that were happy to take on newly qualified. I only ever saw 2 midwifery posts but they both wanted a few years post grad experience. So, i started doing home care and loved it so applied for adult & it feels like the right thing for me to do. There's so many options in nursing so i'm really excited! I always thought about being a HV and i could still do that after qualifying as a nurse if i wanted to. I just looked at my ucas application and i'd clicked that i was going to live in halls, so that's probably why i was with all the youngsters in my interview! There was a lot of talking about halls so they probably put everyone together for that reason
