I know this was ages ago, but here it is:
My birth story for Isabelle, she was born Wednesday 4th March at 5.40am
I was booked in at 9am Wednesday for my induction, well it turned out I was already opened up enough to go with out the gel - they were just going to break my waters! Unfortunately had to wait for a space on the labour ward which was almost 8pm!! SO they got broken, no worries there! Was 2cm dilated - with no pains, just Toni Braxtons :?
By 11pm the contractions started quite mild so at 12pm I had a couple of pains killers and was using the TENS machine on a low setting.
At 2am they were quite strong so I had a shot in my leg (I assume it was pethidine?) it was good for a while and made me sleepy and took the edge of the contractions, which still were every 5 mins, lasting a minute each time
At about 4am (they had still been 5 mins apart and bearable til now!) I jumped up on all fours and had the mother of all contractions (or so I thought at that point
) and I was pressing at the buzzer like a mad woman cos I felt I needed to push!
MW comes in and when it stops she pokes inside and says 'we best get you to the labour ward, your baby is coming!) and on the way they called Dan to get his butt out of bed!
I pushed a few times on my back but I kept saying I needed to be leaning forward, but the MW said I couldn't move
but kep saying I needed to!
I pushed every 10 minutes ish (were slow) and her head was party out (ouchy!) and I couldn't get it out - so in the end I just said 'Iam turning around!' as I was in quite alot of pain with her bonce half out my bits!
Two contractions later and lots of mooing from me and out she pops!
She scored 9 Apgar after 1 minute and 10 after 5 minutes - so she was a good little thing from the start!
Dan cut the cord and they gave her to me nice and cleaned up, then took about 5 mins after the injection for the placenta to come out.
I had 2 stitches- which she wasn't sure needed to be done other than cosmetically, and had to ask another MW if it worth it - and she said was up to me, so I said yes....might as well tidy it back up! I had Gas and Air for that - which made me puke, was horrible!
Good points of my labour
- all in it was 10 hours from waters breaking to the birth - I think thats good!
- didnt even have Gas and Air
- and I reckon the pethidine wasn't doing alot by then either.
- Dan got there in plenty of time to see it all!
- I didn't do a poo! woohoo!
Bad points
- I screamed some really embarrassing stuff, like 'it hurts - push her back in!' or 'cant you just pull her out now?' - 'cant out suck her out then?'
All in all I really have no grounds to complain about my labour or birth at all - I think it was easy compared to alot!
