Am I getting myself worked up for nothing??? _
PostSubject: Am I getting myself worked up for nothing???   Am I getting myself worked up for nothing??? EmptySat Sep 18, 2010 7:31 am

Hiya Girlies,

I shall give you brief story of why I am getting so worked up. Back in Nov 2007 I suffered a slipped disc with compression of the S1 nerve, lived on 24 tablets a day Am I getting myself worked up for nothing??? Icon_eek just so I could get out of bed and lived like that for 13 months. They finally operated in Jan 2009 and the relief was emense, I could finally get my life back on track.

Now back to today, I have been thinking about giving birth (still got 20 weeks to go) and the thought doesn't fighten me or even the pain (I know it's going to be painful) but I am petrified that it's going to damage my back and I will end up back at square one, I really don't want to end up on that path again as that was quite a dark place for me Am I getting myself worked up for nothing??? Icon_cry . I have spoken to my midwife and she advised that I see a consultant about maybe having an elective c section but I have one problem with that...I don't want to be injected in my back as I am terrified that is going to do damage too. Deep down I know it probably won't do any damage but the thought envokes quite a bit of fear in me (God I sound like a right drama queen Am I getting myself worked up for nothing??? Icon_redface ).

What do you girls think..am I getting myself worked up for nothing?

Sorry for it being so long winded Am I getting myself worked up for nothing??? Icon_redface

i do think your worrying too much. but after what you've been through its completely normal to feel the way you do after such damage to your back. have you spoken to your MW?

she may be able to offer some advice

Hiya Kelly,

My midwife has advised me to see a consultant. I'm hoping seeing a consultant will put my mind at ease xxx

I hope you manage to see a consultant soon.

I am sure that whether you give birth naturally or by C section it wont do any damage to your back, but hopefully a consultant will put your mind at ease.

Hope the consultant can give some good experience and advice. It must be quite specific knowledge, what to expect when giving birth after that kind of op?

If you are having a natural labour I'd suggest looking into positions and pool birth - and making sure there is provision for both (and that your wishes are carried out!) during labour. This can help to keep your spine (esp. tail bone and the part that moves during head coming out) as comfy / supported as possible. Then again it might be that you need a section if the consultant thinks there's any risk to your spine/nerves/discs. Good luck getting some clear answers xx

hun when i had rich i had a prolapsed disc, infact i still do, but

i saw consultant and he suggested epidural which would help with any extra pain in labour and i had to wear a back support specifically for pregnant women, this helped.

but let the consultant know and they will be able to ensure your taken care of.

my only issue was i was on a lot of painkillers after because my back was hurting so couldnt breastfeed.
