I always leave them locked in the car (then again I have a habit of locking my kids in the car Rolling Eyes ). You can usually see the car at all times from the counter anyway - never really occured to me to take them in tbh scratch . xx

Sorry Debs but that made me laugh! Laughing

I've always taken Libby in with me but then again I am VERY overprotective. Ask me again when I've got 2 to juggle Laughing xx

Tbh without getting a double buggy out of the boot and strapping them in and trying to manouver it around a tiny petrol counter I would think it would be much more dangerous to have toddlers walking around pertol forecourts. Even on reigns if they tripped over and got petrol/diesel on their hands etc it could be dangerous and god forbid one of them slipped your grasp. Nah IMO defo safer in the car in that environment. xx

I remember panicking about this when i first have alfie. i normally just leave him in the car now - locked. half the time he is asleep anyway and would feel awful for waking him up for the sake of 2 mins. I just watch the car like a hawk from the cash desk!!

thats the same as what i think, it would be more dangerous to take them in the amount of times iv nearley been run over in them places. i always lock the car and i can always see them. i always park the closest to the shop as i can...although i do tend to use the pay at the pump anyway xx

I try to do my fill ups when I have the older kids in the car..so I have someone in with Makynlee when I do my errands..like pick up the mail..bank runs etc. I use to drag her in with her heavy car seat everywhere as there is almost a zero tolerance in Canada for even leaving your dog in the car let alone your kids. I have left her with the doors locked for not even two minutes the couple times I had to quickly grab something. We had friends when we lived in Vancouver that the dad left his 4 kids in their van for probably 5 minutes to quickly grab some milk and diapers at a nearby grocery store..the oldest was 5, and when he returned..there was a large crowd gathered around his vehicle and the cops were just pulling into the parking lot. One of his kids had wriggled out of his car seat and climbed to the front honking the horn..making a huge scene. He was severely reprimanded by the RCMP and had social services do home visits for awhile after that..they are an absolutely lovely family, but after that incident..I have always been paranoid! xxx

OMG Jen thats awful - poor bloke!

Tbh (this may make me sound like a crap mother) I don't see the problem with leaving a child in a secure car seat in a secure car for a few minutes while paying for something? If you weigh up the risks I absolutely believe it is far more dangerous to take your child onto a busy forecourt and try to keep a tight hold on them whilst trying to converse with a cashier and pay for your fuel than it is to leave them in the car. What exactly is gonna happen to them? Over heating shouldn't be a problem because all services I've been to are under cover. Somebody could hit the car but that is just as likely to happen if you are in the car as if you were out and far more likely to happen (with worse consequences) on the open road where people are driving faster. As long as your car is locked nobody is gonna harm or steal your kids - I should know, I spent 3 hours staring at my children through the car window last week whilst a trained AA man failed to get my kids out with my permission, so chances of some peado doing it in 2 minutes, in broad daylight on a busy forecourt are slim to none IMO. Laughing

xx

I usually get petrol either when I am on my own or when me, Bethany and John are in the car, so that John can stay in the car with Bethany. I don't think I would leave Bethany in the car but I think it is alot more difficult when you have more than one child xx
