My childminders just dropped C off and as she was going commented she was having problems with C at play group cos she doesnt seem to want to mix with other kids and cries if people go near her. I know C is going through a particularly clingy phase at the moment with her molars coming through. But im worried im turning her into some kind of antisocial freak, I dont have many friends with young babies all older kids and she interacts with them just fine when she sees them, and i dont take her to play groups etc i prefer to take her to the park or such so she spends a lot of time with me or other adults. When my friend came over yesterday with her son who is C's age he was clinging to his mum's leg and not going to play either so i'd just assumed its an age thing but now im a little worried

Hey Mario, I don't think it is odd at all. I don't think children of Bethany's and Caelyn's age interact as much as when they get older. I've noticed Bethany's nursery that the children seem to be near each other but actually playing on their own. Bethany will wave the her little friends and point to them when I drop her off but I do think as this age they just amuse themselves playing un less it is a group activity. Bethany is also going through a shy phase too and clings to me or John for about 10 mins when she sees people she doesn't recognise. So don't worry xx

Libby's always been abit 'odd' around other children but I think it's because she's so independant. We have friends with a little girl the same age as Libby and although she likes to play with Libby she HATES sharing her toys (and even Libby's) whereas Libby is happy to give her anything. This little girl has also starting hitting - her mum and even Libby, poor Libby doesn't know what to do because she's not used to it. I think what I'm trying to say is no C isn't odd, probably just independant and doesn't want to be hit etc.!! xx

I wouldn't say Imogen plays much with others either really. I take her to baby group but she just wonders around and plays on her own. I've taken her to a friend's son's 2nd birthday party and she clung to me the entire time. She knows her cousins and will play next to them but not with them. I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Tayla used to be the same. I dont think they really develop social skills until they are a bit older. But in the last couple of months shes really come out of herself. We see her friends Lily & Layla usually every monday and go to a soft play area or park or something. But its only recently that they all play together. Its really cute to watch them But before they would stand together but play on their own.

I think its very normal, if the childminder takes her to playgroup on a regular basis she will propbably running around and mingling with others in no time. Jamie took a while to settle in toddler group but now he runs round and is crazy as the rest of them

Totally normal! They act just like we would if dropped off in an environment full of strangers eying and sizing you up. Till she get's use to them, she'll be clingy. xxx
