| Im so sorry Lisa. Im on the phone if you need anything. What Jen said is true, he will not suffer from the withdrawal of food but i do disagree with the lack of pain relief. Ask if they use the liverpool care pathway there as if they are choosing to give him what we call TLC instead of active treatment to ease his passing they should have him written up for decent painrelief and any other meds required to make him comfortable. Its disgusting to just leave him. If you need any advice on the complaints procedure and making sure his needs are met text me. I cant promise to be any help but will do what i can |

I cant promise to be any help but will do what i can thank you ladies yes they mentioned the liverpool care path - they said they will put him on that if he becomes distressed - so just a matter of time of course I don't know what the measurements of paracetamol would do - he had been given 100 at 7am and 150 at about 10 or 11 - although not sure what measurement - do you think that would be doing anything? I assumed mg but that is hardly anything? |

| Lisa i'm so sorry, could it be that your nan is not going to cope well with him being so ill and she cant face what is to happen. or have that as her last memory of him.
i was there when my aunties dad died, she and uncle had gone away and i'm always glad her last memory of him was one of him being strong and not in the state he was at the end. i have the memory of mom being in itc haunt me at times.
just a thought hope your able to sort something out about his care, could the hospital social work team help, just a suggestion
big hug xx |

it seems he is just in limbo - until he is distressed they wont move him to the geriatrics ward (where he would get more care I am sure) and they wont start this liverpool care path - so he's just on this feeble pain relief with no food or water I don't get it at all because what do they have to lose from starting it now - save him getting distressed in the first place?! I don't think my nan had any right to make the decision, she couldn't be bothered to go and see him and to just decide its not worth trying is awful I read (how true I don't know) that there is a higher rate of patients that pull through if they are given high enough pain relief I am mad with everyone right now, my mum has been trying to get him moved from a care home into a nursing home for months - the nursing home manager said they will say when they cant cope (he could hardly move and they have no hoists so it was all manual) - the social worked basically told my mum to stop poking her nose in - my nan could have had moved, she could easily afford it - but she has turned quite bitter towards him over the years like he is a burden to her. He couldnt eat himself and they werent the right people to be looking after him. If he'd been in a proper nursing home Im sure he wouldn't have been so underfed in the first place and even if he had fallen he wouldn't have been so weak I also feel so sorry for the people in his ward - they are there with broken legs etc and have him looking like death in the next bed, not nice for your stay in hozzy! He has been let down big time. |

| He has and if your nan wont do it hon you need to kick up shit. We use the LCP from the second ppl are decided to be for TLC cos it prevents distress and indignity. Ask to speak to your PALS office, patient advice and liason service and shout really loudly at anyone who will listen. Im not sure about the survival rates related to analgesia but unfortunately fractured hips do have a high mortaility rate both initially and in the year following surgery. That said your nan should really have visited and spoken to a doctor to get a balanced opinion. Im so sorry hon. I mean it about only being on the phone if you need anything x |

| Well apparently he was much brighter today, had his eyes open and was more alert
Which is a kick in the teeth to my nan and the doctor who agreed to withhold his food and water - they should feel ashamed of themselves for giving up on him!
Hopefully they will now start to treat him like he isnt about to die!
