Well as it says on the tin really

What do or will you advise your LO 2 do when they start school and get into a bit of a scrape or if they are hit/pushed

Do you tell them to hit them back or to just go and tell the teacher I dont mind saying I was really badly bullied at school and dont want the same thing to happen to Jaiden So I dotn really feel that just telling the teacher is enough but i dont want to tell him to hit back as it just lowers himself to the bullies standards

So what to do ??

I would never tell Izzy to hit back, I dont believe in violence of any kind, so blurring the edges by saying its ok to hit if you are hit seems wrong somehow - and at a young age it could be quite confusing for them.

I HOPE to have a relationship with Izzy where she feels she can tell me anything - I know thats often the problem when kids feel bad somehow for being bullied and so they cant tell anyone and it carries on for years :-(

I think rules for children should be as simple as possible, so for me its 'NO hitting', not 'no hitting, but if you get hit then its ok to hit back'
Its the same for adult rules - no drink driving means NO drink when driving, not 'one will be ok' - that way its easy not to get it wrong!

I don't really know much about the whole physical bullying thing as there was never that kind on school, there was tormenting bullying - which when ignored tended to move on to more 'interesting' subjects who bit back!

Hi. Im a teacher and would def say to let the teacher know about it and if it continues
make sure you kick up a fuss - speak to the headteacher. Let them know
you want action taking. I wouldnt say hit back as even though it would
be in self defence - they may still get in trouble. X

I can see why - it must be hard to think your children may go through what you did and you want them to be able to deal with it...maybe better than you did if you look back and wish you'd done something different?

Lets hope he never has to hit back..

oooh I do agree with all you say but Ive always told mine to "hit them back" but some children do hit back and others don't.

I was the type of child who hit back (if anyone hit me now, I'd probably hit them back before thinking about it)

My children are very different, my daughter was picked on and was bullied and she used to come home and tell me, and I always sorted it out with the school. The school was always very good.

My son on the other hand really hates any type of confrontation/argument but if anyone did him he would hit them back.

I do agree with telling the teacher though!

I think I'd probably tell them to hit back when they were old enough, obviously not at nursey/infant school age. I don't want my kids to be scared of getting into trouble for sticking up for themselves.

I haven't answered in the poll as its a difficult on! Both my boys do karate and know how to look after themselves so if they find themselves in the situation where hitting back is their only option, but they both know not to hit back just for the sake of hitting back. They have both been told to tell the teacher and me if anything happens at school!

I hope that doesn't make it sound like I agree with violence because I don't in any way but I do believe you sometimes will find a need to defend yourself physically!
