Something really odd happened today.... We woke up and our pond was virtually empty!? It had about an inch of water in it, and our little fishes were still alive. We have filled it again, but I dont know if they will survive because of the shock. I checked it last night and it was fine and had plenty of water in it. We had a new pump and filter last week (after dozy OH cut through the last cable), but surely it would have all drained then, not now? Anybody got any ideas? A hold is unlikely as its one of those pre moulded plastic ones. Im wondering if maybe a neighbour jumped our fence and has put a hole in it? x

Laura do you have a cover for your pond. I wanna get something to cover ours to protect c but dunno what to do, was thinking of some strong plastic garden net and some metal tent stakes. Mind you the rest of the garden needs sorting too

We have currently got nothing on it at the moment as in this weather Aimee isnt out there. But we do have some strong wire mesh that goes over it. When we are out there in the summer I also have some wooden folded chairs that cover it completely (its such a small pond, lol!) so if she fell on it she wouldnt go through. This is something that I do think is really important and we are still looking into what we are going to get longer term though. Im not sure if you remember in the summer Aimee got outside and fell in the pond! Luckily its small and I found her quickly (she was covered in algae though!). x |

See ours is a good 2 foot deep and the thought of c falling in terrifies me witless. Was contemplating a bit of decking or something as i cant afford a bespoke cover

How strange! If it loses water again you can get a strong stick or metal rod, poke it down as far as poss around the edges - to find whether it's seeping into the soil and, if so, where abouts (as the ground will be softer) Can't think what it could be; is it deep enough that come the winter the fish have enough depth to go to - as and when it freezes? Maybe you just had thirsty fish xx
