| Theres a woman that has 5 kids and lives off benefits. She gets £870 a month in housing benefits which covers the rent on her four bedroomed detached house......£975 in Child Tax Credit alone aswell as £260 in Income Support and £303 in Child Benefit. She also gets Council Tax Benefit and Free School Meals for all her children. Her and her children only wear or buy designer clothes and she will only shop in Next if she's having a tight month. She uses her benefits to pay for cosmetic surgery and she feels she is entitled to do that as she is a 'good mum' and they have been on 4 abroad holidays in a year! Now tell me theres an incentive to work......I work 42.5 hours per week doing a job that I love, but bring home what she brings home in her Child Tax Credit alone and my hubby serves his country and she gets more than him even when he is fighting a war! Grrrrrrr!! xx |

| That is ridiculous. It makes me so mad when I read things like this, where is the incentive to work when you get more on benefits. I work full time as does my hubby and shopping in NEXT is a rare treat and usually only happens around the sale.
I really hope that the new governments plans push people to go out to work rather than penalise those who go out and provide for their families.
Sorry rant over |

| i never bought the magazine but i read that while waiting for sam in morrisons a few days ago.....absolutely disgusted me!! she said something to the effect of 'why shouldn't we have nice stuff just because we don't work' i'm not all high and mighty, neither me or sam are working at mo because lily-ann needs one on one care...BUT we've not claimed income supprt, jobseekers or anything like that because we're not in it for a free ride...we have been using the money i got in compensation rather than benefits(not that i have a problem with people that really do need them) but those that pops out kids to get benefits to pay for boob jobs and tummy tucks disgust me |

| People like that drive me absolutely mad, and that's coming from someone who's on benefits themselves!! Tbh i do think they get far too much. After my rent, bills and everything Alfie needs i still have enough for my phone contract, gym contract, internet and have money left over for clothes, nights out etc each month.. and that's not including the child benefit money i get which gets put straight into a savings account so i have money for christmas/alfie's birthday each year. They need to seriously cut down the ammount they give people and just give them the bare minimum they need to survive. Otherwise where's the incentive to work at all? I could easily cope on benefits for the rest of my life. But i would never even want to. I want to earn my money an provide for my children myself I don't understand how other people can. |

| Grrrrr annoys the hell out of me!!! Me and Simon have both worked full time since we were 16 (well I did til I had Libby) and we have worked bloody hard to have our own house and 2 decent cars BUT have never had any handouts ever (even from family, we had to start with a 100% mortgage and work our way up), even now we are struggling and only get £10 a week working tax credit and £20 child benefits. I just don't see how the governement can justify the amount they give people, and to hand out so much money when like you say Siobhan your husband is fighting for our country and is getting less - I think it's criminal!!! xx |

| Wow! I never realised you got so much for having the extra kids. I hate articles like this because they only show you the extremes and I think alot of people then believe that all people on benefits are well off and living glorious lives. Im going to put myself up for a slagging here but Iv been relying on benefits since ending my mat leave in March and I get about £400 housing benefit (The cheapest one bed in my area is about £380), £65 IS, £60 child tax and £20 child benefit. Basically after iv topped up the rent I have £120 a week for food, electric, oil, clothes, nappies etc.... I dont claim to be in utter poverty. I do think I could take a small cut and not be on the street. I am lucky that OH contributes to things like oil and electric and buys nappies/clothes for Caity boo. (He still doesnt live here full time due to illness and Im counted as single- I did tell tax credits etc I was engaged but as he spends 4-5 nights a week at his mums (his carer) they class me as single.) I probably would struggle more if OH didnt help out, £120 a week aint a fortune to run a house. I also rely more than I would like on grandparents buying Caitlin treats eg the odd teddy, a book on a Saturday etc, I cant do that as often as Id like. Its wrong that the more kids you get the wealthier you become. I would never dream of banging out kids to be better off. Im embarassed enough that I dont support the one Iv got! Im not comfortable on benefits. Iv mentioned before feeling reluctant to comment on these threads as Im annoyed by my situation, im also not comfortable in the sense that I cant afford to buy everything I would like. In saying that if benefits were cut I would just have to budget better. We all cut our cloth as the saying goes. Im crossing all my fingers and toes that I get the job I have applied for. Then I will be able to hold my head up high, and buy Caitlin teddies ! Iv came to the conclusion I need to work full time to give Caitlin the life I want her to have- benefits certainly is providing that lifestyle at the moment, and neither should it! |

| Snoopy - hun don't worry, I certainly don't think of everyone that is on benefits like that at all. What's annoying is the almost mocking attitude of these people, they are not embarrassed and are even proud of the fact they get more money than those that work. To say that she only buys Next or designer clothes and can afford to have plastic surgery is absolutely sickening, I honestly cannot remember the last time I bought myself an item of clothing but I know it would of been from Primark as I cannot afford anywhere else. xx |

| Aww thanks guys Just wanted to add, Kenty I think its very noble that you and Sam arent claiming but you shouldnt feel ashamed in the future if you decide to. That compensation could maybe be spent on things lily-ann will need in the future, or on occassional family treats. We all know that you arent a free rider hun. I hope you are able to claim DLA or carers allowance, nobody could disagree that you are genuine. x |

| Totally agree with Snoopy! Kenty you're the reason benefits are in place, for the family that really needs them. Don't not claim out of guilt x |

| Sorry didn't want to offend anyone that does claim benefits, so I apologise if I have. Snoopy - Please dont feel as though im getting at people in your situation, at least you are willing to get back out into the world of work etc. whereas the people I am referring too are people like the lady in the article who think hmmmm what can I do to get more money, oh I will pop another baby out. Kenty - As others have said dont feel ashamed if you are to claim in the future, like others have also said you shouldn't feel like you have to use your compensation money to live on and that may come in handy to buy Lily-Ann equipment in the future. You may not go out of the house to work, but you do the best job in the world and thats looking after your amazing little girl and of course your little Lewis. xx |

| snoopy you mad woman arnt you doing voluntary work just now working with kids? You have put so much into the society doing that alone. I have said before Id rather tax payers money goes to parents who wants to spend time with their kids until they go to school than to bums that sit about their whole lifes with nothing better to do. but that story takes the piss.
you have nothing to be ashamed of. you have a very good attitude x |

| Dont worry Siobhan I knew what you meant, I disagree with it in principal too. Having kids shouldnt be a career option... Steph, yup I did 20hrs a week for the last 3 months in a childrens home. The placement set up by YMCA/job centre ended last week. I asked the manager if I could continue doing a couple of evenings a week and she is checking the insurance policy for me, but hopefully it will continue. Last week I felt a tad depressed being in the house all day. I thought Id enjoy being off but strangely I missed it. I even took Caitlin down to meet the kids one afternoon because I was bored. They loved her, even the boys that could be a bit aggressive were so nice to her. A lot of them have younger siblings they rarely see... If I dont get a job in the next 3 months I can reapply for the same job scheme. Id recommend it to anyone as its boosted my confidence & made me happier.... You girls are too nice sometimes |
