LOL..Shayne has had a few different careers in all the years I've been with him. When we first got together, he worked for his dad building houses in the lower mainland. Did that for a few years, and then decided to follow in his dad's footsteps and become a mortgage broker and work for his dad's company for a few more years. His dad is wealthy, but is one of those paranoid rich ppl who thinks everyone is out to get him. After watching Shayne work for peanuts yet bust his ass for nothing, I begged him to make a career change as he was unhappy and felt under his dad's thumb. He always was interested in being an electrician, so we buckled down and put him back through school, he excelled at it. Now..few years later..he owns his own Electrical contract company and does pretty damn well at it. I am so proud of him as he is probably one of the hardest working people I have ever met and it's finally paying off.

My OH works in a warehouse picking and packing and he hates it but it's good money for the hours he works! He works Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sundays (Sundays are double time) so he gets paid 5 days and only works 4! He would live to change his job but doesn't really know what he wants to do!!

My friends OH is a professional poker player, recently he won £20k - just before her baby was born!

My OH is transport manager for Allied Bakeries (Kingsmill) basically he makes sure bread is delivered to shops on time and spends his time messing with trucks so although it is office based he likes to think its quite manly too . He basically started at driver level and has worked his way up and he is starting a logistics degree in January to hopefully become logistics manager when complete.

I'm sure I remember you asking about HGV licences before you moved back home? Has Luke decided against that? Whilst it can be a little expensive to get your licences and like every other industry, jobs are difficult to come by at the mo - the money can be quite good and there is always work on agencies to get a foot in the door somewhere.

My OH is a joiner to trade but he worked his way up to Site Manager. He's just been offered another promotion to Project Manager with a construction company.

Can your OH not do an open learning course with Reading Uni/college. They do all sorts of construction courses online so you work at home on them.

my oh is a PE teacher, he teaches at the high school he went to as well. He was a bit of a shit at school and he feels this school and his then pe teacher turned him around and that was when he decided to become a teacher. That pe teacher is now one of the deputy heads and rich is the head of the pe department!!!

i actually feel a lil scummy now...sam doesn't work....he's had tons of jobs, up until july 09 he was working at jessops in leeds, he was the best guy in the store and up for promotion...but the boss screwed him over and chose a mate(who was only a stockroom assistant anyways) so sam basically got made redundant

now he stays at home and helps look after the kids...we're living on my savings, child benefit and tax credits at mo...so he best get a job soon! lol

My OH's job title is Ecommerce Project Manager. But he's also an IT Developer. Basically he had a gap year before Uni and started working for a bank in their IT department. He went to Uni to study Ecommerce and then bagan work as a developer. He went on to develop a programm that had a commercial application and the company set up a new sister company and made him a director. He left after a couple of years as he wanted to work for a large corporation and came to work at the bank. He works his cahoonas off and has been well rewarded for it.

Sometimes a stop gap job can lead to a new found love.

Thanks so much for you all replies. Some great ideas there. Im not sure he really know what he wants to do tbh, but just wants some security and training behind him. Debs he did look into doing to HGV license but we couldnt afford for him to do it then I think his uncle put him off about as he owns a lorry driving company thing and said that a lot them were getting laid off.
Ill show him this thread and we will do some research into what he wants to and look at course etc. Thanks again x

He's also a skilled French polishing and plumbing

my oh is a chef. didnt go to college he had a bar job and covered a shift in the kitchen one day and hasnt looked back. he goes through stages of hating it and stages of loving it. guess its a job that doesnt require qualifications but does require skill

Hubby is a Police Firearms Officer an before that a manager of an outdoor shop x

Mr Pepper is a railway signalman. He started on the railway at Leeds Train Station as a Station Officer, patrolling the station and carrying out security checks etc. Then he went on to work as Mobile Operations Inspector dealing with cable theft, vandals and attending incidents such as suicides

He was displaced and now works signalling trains, he said it's like playing with a huge train set!! LOL

My OH does something unspeakably technical and geeky about IT and data etc. I cant really ask him about what he is doing as there is no chance i would understand the answer, i am chuffed if i can do a pivot table or something

He did an IT based degree and worked up from there. The pay is good as its quite specialised stuff that he does but again it prob not what your OH looking for.

Deffo worth looking into the apprenticeships as the govt are really pushing these and increasing the funding for them. Depends whether you can manage on the low wage for the year or two though as employers only have to pay around £95 per week.

We have a minibus company so he drives a minibus lol xxx

My OH is assistant manager at our local Co-op, he wants his own store, but they are none available in the York area yet so hes looking for other Store manager jobs on the quiet lol xx
