Hi all,

My sister is in labour and has been since 2am this morning. She is still at home and contractions are 20mins apart. She's phoned hosp and they've said to stay home as this could last for days! She is finding them very uncomfortable but doesnt want to go in if she's not very far dialated.

Anyone experianced a long labour like this? if so how long is she expected to last without sleep before they'll help her along?

Leanne

awww your poor sister, sorry cant offer any experience my labours were 6 and 4 hours.
If she feels she needs to go then tell her to go hun, she may actually be dilating! I was told i wouldn't have Tommy for atleast 24 hours with Tommy, 4 hours later no pain relief just sleeping tablets i nearly gave birth in a lift without my son's dad there!

The poor love. I had a pretty long labour. I started to get regular contactions on Tuesday night at 9pm. They got to every 6 mins only for them to fade away, this carried on and on the Wednesday night they got to every 4 mins only to bog off again. In my area you get a sweep at 40+10 if you want one so I had that at 1pm on Thursday and was admitted to the labour ward at 9pm that evening. I didn't actually give birth until 22:34 the following evening (Friday) and that was after a drip and 2.5 hrs worth of pushing. To say I was knackered is a fecking understatment. I hope to god that she doesn't have to go through all this xxxx

i started having contractions on thursday 23rd(afternoon) and had them continuously until i gave birth sunday 26th(9.22pm)....i went to hossie twice...first time they sent me home, 2nd time they said come in but we'll likely send you home...they only kept me in because she was really low down so they wanted to keep an eye...even on the saturday night after no sleep since wednesday they refused to give me anything but co-codamol...unfortunately my hospital seemed happy to leave me for as long as it took even though i was exhausted and not slept for 4days!

good luck to your sister!

sounds like it cud deffo be slow labour but cud go on for days!

my waters broke on the sunday mornin - i started with contractions on the afternoon altho 30 - 45 mins apart. i went in to be induced the next day cos of the danger of the waters being broken n risk of infection. Alfie was born 2.06 on the Tuesday morning.

aw hope shes had the baby by now.
But same happened to me with lillie (sooo hope doesnt happen this time, that was the worst bit of the whole thing.)

contractions started on the 8th feb am where 20mins apart (my actual due date!!) in the night were 10 mins apart... went to hospital 2am of the 9th told nope wasnt diliating and needed beds so to go home.
was back in by 1am 10th, were 2 mins apart. only dilated to 2cms again told to go home....
still at 2mins apart I was climbing the walls and they refused me any pain reliefe. went in again 4am on the 11th, still 2mins apart, kept me in for a bit due to her heart rate, whilst there waters went 5pm and had her by 8.55pm! Very Happy so once my body decided to play the game I was done and dusted within few hours! actual labour was fine!

hope all goes well for her! x x
