Ava is getting good at standing with my support but i think she needs something to stand against to be more independant, can anyone recommend anything? my sofa's leather so she can't rest against that without sliding off.

I've seen these on amazon but they seem to have mixed reviews

My HV told me that if they are going to stand and feel ready then to let them and apparantly its not true that they get bandy legs!!

conflicting advice again!

Really Katie? I've never heard of them being too young to stand, Libby was obsessed with pulling herself up on anything, whether it was the coffee table, stairs etc. I'm surprised her orthopedic consultant didn't tell us that.

We did know about the baby walkers, that was a definate no no for Libby anyway but her consultant said they were terrible for babies. We saw a little boy a few weeks ago walking with his parents help and he was literally constantly on his tip toes Sad

We were told it was fine to let her stand if she wanted to. TBH we had a baby walker and she loved it, I was told they were fine as long as not used excessively

I wouldn't get one of the giraffes for that purpose, unless its fixed down it will slide

Personally I would just let her do it when she is ready - Izzy didn't do it til very late and now she is almost running - they get there in their own time so when she has the inner strength she will be able to hold herself up against even a leather sofa

I think the baby walker is a bit exaggerate - its only going to cause problems if a baby is in it all day, and they are not more unsafe than any other toy when used without supervision!

I know what you mean about being put off, I only need to get told something once!! I honestly had never heard that though, I suppose it would of been difficult to stop Libby but we didn't actually encourage her either she was just a determined little madam!! Laughing xx

I really think its a stupid thing for HVs to say dont 'let' them stand early...my sister was walking at 9 months old, so was my mum supposed to stop her standing up!

A baby will only really stand when its strong enough and when IT wants to , not when an HV says its ok...rarrrr can you tell I think HVs are a waste of space!

she just said if he does it dont stop him, but dont encourage him and try to 'make' him, by buying tham things to help. they will do it when they are ready and if they struggle or need support then they obvously arent x

I didnt know about any advice about baby walkers, and Aimee had one from about 7 months.

She absolutely loved being in it.
