evening all,

well i had parents evening for son tonight and not sure if all of you know but he has adhd, autistic traits and learning disabilities.
although he is 11, he is actually about 4/5 years old in his learning, well was

he does go to special school, he just couldnt cope in mainstream. anyway

his teacher has informed us in maths he has developed so much he is in a group above the top group on his own and having his own work set for him, she tells him what to do and he does (huge improvement)
then in literacy he is only writing neater, well writing is good enoguh on its own, he has gone through 3 stages of books since september .
there are no behaviour problems at all, occasionally not listening but hey we cant have everything, but the best news on top of all that he is starting to socialise better with the other kids.

now you may think i'm weird but i was told by a doctor if i didnt put him on medication that he would never have friends, never make progress and be nothing. well i stood my ground and refused point blank to put him on medication where one of the side effects is removes the spark of life from the child..... the doctor discharged him stating there was nothing he could do
so for past 7 years i've battled and taught rich how to manage his conditions himself, we have strict routines, diet and clear communication.
and i'm so proud that my son is making friends, is progressing and is truly amazing
so i'm a proud mom showing off my son
hope no one minds, me posting but i'm smiling so much and i heard him read tonight and he was a amazing, (did find out he hasnt brought his book home since sept because teacher was saying put it in your book bag, rich doesnt have one, he has a school bag so wasnt bring it home, an example of his understanding lol)

Ahhh thats great - can see why you are proud. Just proves that in a lot of cases parents know what is best for their kids. Hope he carries on doing well x

That must have been so good to hear It sounds like he's doing so well, hope he goes from strength to strength

that's fab news it just goes to show what a little bit of help can do (much more than medication I'm sure!!)

awww you have every right to be proud. well done you for sticking with your guns and seeing it through. im sure its hard work. give yourself a hug. so glad he's doing well, he sounds like a very intelligent boy xx
