| What defines them to you?!
I really have NO idea what is the correct usage of each, but my way is a jacket is something unlined and a coat is something lined for colder weather
What do you think? |

| I think a Jacket is a lighter weight coat, and therefore a coat is heavier |

| In my book a jacket is light weight, and not really to keep you warm. A coat is thicker and warmer. Although i generally call both a coat. If that makes sense?! |

| i think you dont get a long jacket but you can get short coats. So a jacket is short, light weight and unlined. A coat is long or short but thicker and heeavier with padding or lining |

| A jacket is lightweight and always short. A coat is always warmer and usually lined, it can be long or short. In saying that I hav a purple phatface coat thats long with a hood and quite lightweight... It CANT be a jacket becaues it goes past my bum.... Maybe its an anorak? |

| you can just throw on a jacket for casual things like...popping to the shop or putting the rubbish out. a coat is 'proper' haha like for going on real expeditions and stuff |

| Lisa I hate the word anorak too!!! It sounds so granny like. I agree raincoat is much more suitable... but then when I think of a raincoat I think of a plastic mac type thing... Jeez this outerwear business is complicated! |

| I have jackets that are short and not lined. Something I would prob wear in spring to keep the chill off my arms. A coat is a nice snug lined one which is saved for winter x |
