fergs psyco ex smeared margarine on the magnolia wall. its them egg shell kind. so i papered over it after cleaning it up best i could.

iv took all the paper off the wall now and tried to paint iver it, i still have this great whopping shiney bit in the middle of my wall @@@@!!!

iv attacked it with white spirits to try take the oil out of it and iv scrubbed it with boiling hot soappy water too. and then under coated it and its STILL shining thru :@

please tell me, some one knows how to fix this, i really dont want to put up lining paper Sad

What about sanding it off and skimming with plaster?

I've heard sugar soap is good for getting tough things off, could try that? x

I would use sugar soap and then undercoat but it sounds like you have already given it a big scrub! Maybe skim over it which is a bit of a faff!

If you put a coat of primer on before you paint it shouldn't show through (in theory)

Could you use stain block?? I used this when we had a leak and it stopped it coming back through

Not sure if you guys get a brand of primer/sealer called KILZ, but is made to cover and seal stains that otherwise cannot be removed any other way. Other than that, you can cut out the piece of gyproc/ drywall and buy another piece to replace it. xx

used sugar soap, after the turps. still showed. i used stain block and it still showed!! sooooooooo, i sanded it down finely and skimmed it. now i have an even wall Very Happy thanks xox

Bit late now Laura. But a good tip my dad taught me, which covers most stains, is to gloss over it first, then paint over that with whatever finish you want.

Glad you got it sorted in the end tho! x
