| Charlie is now an expert on the stairs, well climbing up them anyway. When and how do I teach him to get back down them? I just pick him up when he gets to the top and move him away.
Hope you can help! |

| Chloe is great going up but rubbish coming down, she comes down on her bum at the moment. I started by holding her hand and coming down on my bum with her or coming down backwards, now I walk down in front of her and she follows me down.
If he can go up, you need to start teaching him how to come down. I think how you do it depends on what sort of handrail you have too, Chloe can't reach ours so that's why she comes down like that, but Kelly's Rowan can walk down properly because they have a rail he can grab hold of |

| ooooh great post, Cerys has managed to do the same lol !!! We dont have a handrail as our staircase is open on one side (open plan lounge) its not possible to put a handrail on our stairs. i let her go up a few steps and she will reverse down - like climbing down a ladder. ive stopped her going all the way up as im terrified she will fall backwards and do a stunt baby fall |

| Izzy strides down them while holding our hands, and my mum said she showed her how to reverse down on her hands and knees (which is how she does the step from the bedrooms)
I have gates top and bottom, so she doesn't go up or down without us, but I think its important to teach them a safe way as soon as they appear interested in going up/down - so if ever the gate was accidentally left open she would have a good chance of doing it safely! |

| Aimee has been getting up and down them for months and we took our stairgate off months ago too. My dad taught her how to get down. He spent ages just letting her go up, and then getting her to crawl back down on her front. If I am there, she will try to walk down holding my hand, so I tend to leave her to it, that way she just comes down on her own, on her front. x |

| We moved house when Thomas was 10 months and he was always going up and shouting for me to come get him down so I spent a while teaching him to come down in reverse and he has always been fine. I do have a stair gate at the bottom to stop him disapearing up there and ransacking the place when Im not looking but I don't have one at the top so when we are upstairs cleaning he is free to come and go up and down. He likes to walk down holding the handrail now but wont do it unless Im infront of him watching, he's quite careful tbh. He also likes to hold my hand - but only one - he's far too big and clever to need to hold two now xx |

| C cant walk down our stairs, they are steep and tall so im teaching her to 'bump' down on her bum, she gets quite excited by it now and shouts bump bump when shes at the top. She refused to do the reversing down so seemed the best option, i still often carry her but its reassuring to know she can do it safely herself |

| Just thought I'd update! Thanks for all your replies, I spent a couple of days teaching him to crawl back down the stairs, he's now an expert at both lol! We have a stairgate at the top and he can even climb over that, turn around and crawl down backwards!
Although I don't tend to leave him to it completely alone I do stand back and he is fine! If someones infront of him he does try to walk so we do have to give him some space |
