God, poor wee dote ! I didnt realise it was a symptom of something sorry. A friend at uni had them, but she was quite skinny and I assume it was just natural for her body. She was fit & healthy. I wonder if she always had them? Really hope its nothing serious and his heart gets the all clear x

i think it is quite normal for skinny adults to have them - but apparently not babies, at first she told me about his dimples and i thought well thats normal but when i saw them they were quite long, not just little round dimples. i really hope its not spina, on the positive side the doc said its only usually one dimple not 2. =o( x

ah good - i did a little more research and even if it is spina bifida (which is a low perfentage chance) then it will be the very mild version and he may never be affected by it. Which is great. But apparently only between 2-4% of babies are born with back dimples! x

Wow really? Me, my bro and sister were are born with them! Tays are only very slight. I googled it a while back and found forums on how to get them as they are very desired for, people wanted surgery and everything also people find sticky out collar bones attractive I have both but never liked them!

My niece had them as a baby, and they investigated her too, but she's absolutely fine. She's a very healthy 17 year old now

Hi Its to do with Tethered Spine! A lady I work with, her granddaughter has just had an op to correct it! Ellie has a mark at the top of her bottom and I asked the HV if it could be to do with tethered spine and she said I was to tell my GP i wanted a scan! A Scan is the only way to tell. For years tethered spines have been ignored until the child has problems in later life but in my area there has been a lot of attention on it (due to my friends granddaughter) and now they are all pretty well informed and actioning parents requests for scans. They can't refuse to let you have a scan! Having the dimples doesnt mean there is definitly a problem its best to get it checked as its easy to correct when they are babies. Another sign is a clump of hair at the base of the spine which falls off shortly after birth! If you need any info PM me as my pal is pretty much an expert on this now. xx

PS - Ellie has two ordinary dimples and the HV said they are perfectly normal. the dimples that mean there could be a problem are called dimples but look like tiny pin pricks and are called dimples but nothing like what we know as dimples - so to any ladies who's babies have dimples - this isnt it!
