I thought you may be the lady to ask, being t'other side of the water Smile
Pumpkin pie - any good?
Or yuck?!

I really like the look of it but worry it'll taste like feet Jen about? 548646 - and if it had black treacle in, even more so...
I've had baked pumpkin I think before, like wedges - but I might be confusing that with sweet potato or butternut squash scratch
Any other ideas for pumpkin insides?! xx

OMG! YES! Pumpkin pie is delish. If you buy it at the store..just reheat it in the oven for a few minutes, then serve with ice vanilla ice cream or fresh whipped cream topping. I love it! It really tastes more like cinnamon spice and has a lovely creamy texture. After one bite..you'll be begging for the pumpkin pie latte's at starbucks! xxx

I wouldn't go to the trouble of making home made..when u can easily buy the pie filling in the store in a can all pre-seasoned..BUT you can wash the pumpkin seeds..put them on a baking sheet with some olive or vegetable oil..sprinkle with some seasoning salt and bake for about 10-12 minutes..they are quite tasty! Alot of ppl over here make a pumpkin soup with the pumpkin innards, and it is very good too.

Thank you muchly Smile Good to know it's as tasty as I imagine Smile
Although, erm - I think I'll get some funny looks asking for pumpkin pie filling in Tesco Jen ... I have a feeling we won't have it over here. (I would buy a whole pre-done pie to try but pretty sure you can't even buy them?!) Ahh we don't know what we're missing out on apparently Laughing

Baked seeds sound great, hubby would like - and by 'seasoning salt' you mean.....? xx

thats one mother fluffing link Jen Smile
Ta though - hubby is really going to have fun pi$$ing about mixing his own version of that Smile is there an over-riding flavour to it usually that works well as a season-all (e.g. garlic / paprika?) - just wondering which one we deff need in there.

Now then, about this pie of the pumpkin. Delish you say. Is it tasty enough to brave making one? I can stretch to a pre-done pastry case but then I think I'll be on my own from there.

I saw it on big cook little cook (a children's programme Smile ) once but the ingredients looked bleurgh together - soft brown sugar, 2 eggs, double cream, treacle and the pumpkin boiled first. Didn't look quite right / sweet enough and the treacle is this stuff Jen about? Treacle Jen about? 981624

Molasses? That looks like! LOL

1/4 heaping teaspoon of kosher salt
16 oz of solid homemade stewed pumpkin, pureed
3/4 cup whipping cream
1/2 cup sour cream
3 large eggs, beaten.
1 Tablespoon Apricot Preserves to spread over crust.
For Filling:
Mix first 6 ingredients in bowl quickly, mixing mixture has no lumps.
Blend in stewed and pureed pumpkin, whipping cream, sour cream and eggs.Spread preserves over crust; pour in filling.
Bake until filling puffs at edges and center is nearly completely set, about 55-60 minutes. Cool. Cover with tinfoil; chill until cold. (Can be made 1 day ahead.)

It tastes worse Suspect

Is this a tried and tested Jen recipe? Smile
Couple of questions to leave you with (I need to sleep...!)

Packed brown sugar... erm, are we back to treacle? Or soft sand-like sugar?
kosher salt?! That regular salt?
Is it a cool-ish (like half temperature) oven - if it's in that long?

Thanks again, you could always post me a slice when you're next tucking in Wink might be easier that having your culinary brains picked Laughing
I'm away to bed just now, will check back 2moro xx

I would just use regular salt..salt is salt. And for the brown sugar...I think you defo need that to give it the rich flavour. I've made one homemade pumpkin pie in my life from scratch and that was in high school home-ec class. The pumpkin puree was the hardest part.

You've just killed down dead any apetite / enthusiasm you were aiming to spread for the old pumpkin pie there Jen Shocked Jen about? 981624 Laughing

Have found this I could try - http://www.americansoda.co.uk/uk/American-Soda/Home/Baking/Pie-filling-+-Jell-O/Libby%27s-Pumpkin-Pie-Filling-425g.aspx

But at £5.44 inc p&p (about $9 CAD) I have a feeling I'm being diddled scratch so will try shop about!

Gonna try put my seeds to good use tomorrow though - will I oil the tray (use greaseproof paper too?) or oil the seeds themselves, then season? xx

Ta Jen, although that ones worse for p&p (£9.10 total, $15CAD!) website looks good though.
Found this one: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Libbys-Pumpkin-Pie-Filling-425g/dp/B003ZZE3Q4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1288472656&sr=8-4
which works out at £4.37 / about $7.15CAD

Is it worth it do you reckon?! Very Happy How much do you pay from the shops?

P.S. excited to see photos of your halloween fest Jen about? 8399

An update (how exciting Smile ) - we did the roast seeds and although the seasoning worked out ok (curry powder, garlic, salt, pepper, ginger... I think that was it anyway!) the seeds would really be better de-husked I think scratch - tasty to crunch and made a nice smell in the kitchen anyway!

The quest continues on the pie front; what price is a tin of the filling usually Jen? Also- while looking - I saw Almond Snickers; I'd totally forgot about seeing these in the US and fired off an e-mail to mars - they are missing a niche in the market (pg women avoiding peanuts!!) as w can't get them over here unless paying about £2 a bar instead of about 50p!

Did you put pics up btw? xx

Think I'm chattering to myself but - Laughing woo hoo - look what I found
http://www.ocado.com/webshop/product/Libbys-Pumpkin-Puree/29616011?parentContainer=SEARCHlibbys
Just need to conjour up my own spices (cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg I'm thinking). Ocado is the online version of Waitrose, a pricey supermarket but think I'll have to call in when next nearby!

Got a reply from Mars Rolling Eyes
Thank you for contacting us about Snickers (Almond). Unfortunately this product is not avaliable in the UK.
All of our sister companies throughout the world are serviced by local manufacturing and marketing units, which cater for the specific market and cultural differences of that country.
We need to be fairly certain before we launch a new product or variety onto the market that there will be a high consumer demand for that product. In the UK we currently have no plans to introduce this product as consumer research has shown relatively little demand.

LOL! Sorry missus! Been busy the past few days! A large tin of pumpkin pie filling here(makes two pies) is about 4-5 CAD dollars. Cheaper down south as living up in the middle of nowhere..everything is more. Pumpkin spice..do you have any of that available over there? If you need me to send you anything..let me know. Shipping over here is ridiculous tho..went to send Mario some mountain dew, and for 12 cans, was gonna cost me 98 CAD dollars! So I found that site to ship within your own country for a heck of a lot less! If you want Mars Almond..those would be alot cheaper to send as it's all done by weight here. xxx

oo that price is good then, on that link to Ocado. Think I'd ring first to check they have it in stock, rather than make a trip!

Nope, no pumpkin spice - another extorsion it seems http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/McCormick-Pumpkin-Pie-Spice-Seasoning-31g-/150505426946?pt=UK_Home_Garden_Food_SM&hash=item230ad29002 - that's £7 all-in, $11.50ish CAD Rolling Eyes

$98 to post mountain dew?! Man alive - I'd want the bloody mountain itself for that!! Shocked Laughing

Thank you muchly for the offer of posting Embarassed my belly is under orders for two now - that's my excuse anyway Embarassed Don't want to put you out though, esp. on a whim of my gluttonous urges! Laughing
I've found these - which work out at £2.10 a bar...
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Snickers-Almond-bar-USA-Item-/380262374332?pt=UK_Sweets_Chocolate&hash=item5889675bbc
I seem to remember chocolate bars being quite expensive (that was US though) so by the time you've bought them and looked in to postage do you think it'd probably average out at about that (£2.10 / about $3.40CAD)?

Hope all is ok with you xx

http://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/far/personal/findARate?execution=e5s1

See that it's reasonable first - they're about 50g each I'd say - no worries at all if too many $$$s (which I think it prob will be?!) xx

ooo let me know what tickles your fancy and what my budget is - can do like for like - have you tried different types of galaxy - ripple, minstrels, caramel, bubbles... ?

Then there's things like kit kat, kit kat chunky, rolos, yorkie (man chocolate), aero, dairy milk, double decker, boost, star bar, picnic --> those last 4 all have other stuff like nougat / caramel in.

Have a window shop on here and see what you think Smile xx

LOL! Throw in some acne cream too! Love love love the caramel, cookie crumble and the smooth milk chocolate from Galaxy. We get all the other chocolate bars here, just not the galaxy. The closest thing I could find to galaxy is the Dove chocolate, and it's very expensive and still doesn't quite muster up to it. PM addy and I will get that stuff out to you. xx
