just wondering, eli is too much of a heffalump for his little baby carrier really so thought a rucksack type might be better for spring - is it a good idea or backbreaking Laughing

Totally off topic here but I live about 5 mins from the place in that link! Graham Goode motors!!! Its full of chav cars but they are really nice people!

I had a back carrier like the mothercare one and it was fab with the boys! It was an antique as it was the one my mum used for me and my brother!

We have a macpac rucksack

http://www.mumsnet.com/Reviews/Backpacks/26-macpac-vamoose

I used it when Seb was younger, when I needed to get the train, to go to the dentists up 2 flights of stairs, and when it was too snowy for the pushchair. OH used it a lot too for walks including a walking holiday in the Lakes, but since about 15 months he has really got quite heavy so it hasn't been used as much.

We paid about 150 for it and also bought the "sleepy-head pillow attachment" (another 10 or 15 I think); but I think it is 200 full price. We bought it expecting to use it for 2 kids.

papoose Oct 09

Picture from around 7 months - I can't find any that show the full papoose.

those who have/had one - there is one with a visor type thing...is that practical? like this http://www.next.co.uk/shopping/homeware/nursery/53/4?extra=sch&n=women-maternity-collections&utm_source=google&utm_medium=product_search&utm_campaign=googleps i am just wondering what you would do if you didnt have one when it was snowing/raining, or is it impractical to use in bad weather (really need to know as scotland in winter is rarely pleasant Laughing)

the one with have has a visor and inside it a rain cover that comes out goes over the visor and over the front and sides of the carrier (only the top part though) and it clips on.

The Macpac comes with a sunshade on two little poles that pokes into the top of the rucksack, and then a full-on raincover that goes over the whole thing (including sunshade, so the raincover isn't touching baby's head). I don't have any photos of it in use like that as you couldn't see Seb and it wasn't the weather for standing around with cameras. Obviously it is a bit of a faff to put on but like pram raincovers it gets easier with practise - it helps to have two people if you are putting it on outdoors when it is windy.

I think Seb's feet now poke out of the raincover so his legs need to be appropriately covered. He has been in the rucksack wearing a snowsuit and a [Regatta] puddlesuit (not at the same time!) for extra protection from the weather which helps to avoid needing the raincover. He doesn't particularly like the sunshade if we put the sides down as he can't look sideways, similarly I don't suppose he likes the raincover much though as we can't really see him we don't know, and as we mainly used it last winter which was approx 8-13 months he tended to doze off when there was nothing to look at.

i think we will deff get one - hopefully one with a good cover for eli then i suppose the raincover is the same in principle as on the buggy - he can't really see anything and just falls asleep which is a shame but better than being wet!

Elijah is just over 5 months now so will be a similar age to seb over winter/spring - could be really helpful as i am struggling a lot with the pram/carseat/buggy/stairs/bags situation Laughing and refuse to 'bump' him up/downstairs!

if anyone is looking to sell one we might be interested (when pennies allow! Wink )
