least with little dogs you can kick them and nobody really notices Laughing i think you should get a pony - they have the added bonus of being transportation Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy but if i got a dog i would get a german shepard, they are lovely (but big!)

Oh Amanda, I had a mini schnauzer too, she was called Mildred and live till she was 15, its first year anniversary tomorrow! They are lovely dogs, I want another but OH says no. We also used to have an Airedale terrier but at that time we had lots of land and lived a rural area.

I also like fox terriers!

we had poodles as a child, they were lovely too!

Haha its funny how we all have ideas about different dogs, I would hate to have a big dog now. Its the thought of taking them for a walk (drag) and them getting covered in mud and then dirtying your floors when you got home. At least with a little one you can stick him in the sink and wash his legs. Big dogs are hard work and need so much space and care!

We've just got cats now, which are lovely.

I agree! Mine are so small I can hook them over my foot and lob them into which room I require Laughing

Yes ponies are also beneficial, and can act as a lawnmower, saving once again on petrol

Have you thought about going to the dogs home and seeing what sort of doggy you like?

Staffies are lovely dogs, they seem to have a bad reputation but actually make great family pets, as do labradors.

Actually I have to agree now I think about it

Dogs can be very expensive, even more so if you get a puppy that needs jabs

A simple thing can run into the £££s, like Denny ate a hazlenut and that cost us about £400, Biggles got a twig stuck in his teeth - that was £100 to remove, various other things like spaying girls and chopping boys, they really can add up with what you spend on them..plus of course feeding them every week, it costs us about £40 a month to feed 2 small ones, it could easily double for a big dog.

Golden retrievers are the best dogs for families, that's what led us to get Nelly. She is so gentle with the kids, and very protective over them. If I even raise my voice to Matt or Maddy..she will come barreling up the stairs to make sure they are ok. Sometimes Maddy and I wrestle(play fight) on the floor, and Nelly will insert herself between me and Maddy to protect her. It is hilarious! With Makynlee, she is the same way..this past week because she was ill, Nelly wanted to be with her. The only danger she is, is her tail wagging and accidentally hitting Maky in the face with it. I love this dog, the only complaint..is the shedding.
