We spent ages, and I mean aaaages, researching and bying our new kettle and toaster two years ago.
We signed up to which? online for reviews, we trawled the net, looked in electrical shops etc.

Bought the breville blue ice toaster and kettle - each £40. Also paid and extra £10 each for 3yr extended warrantee - and glad we did!
The Kettle has started to leak and the lights flicker on the toaster - and there was a suspicious plasticy-smell coming from it last week - oh and the crumb tray won't click in place any more.

BUT under the extended warrantee we can get replacements upto the same value or vouchers - either way we still need a new one of each.

Any recommendations - or ones to stay clear of?! In the budget of £40 a piece, less would be fab as could then have vouchers left over
Or do you think it's more cost effective to buy cheap-piss ones and replace every year or two?! Before these we had cheap and cheerful tesco/argos own brands. Boiled water is boiled water I suppose - but a crap toaster can be very annoying (that burns/ only does one side)

I bought our kettle from Sainsburys for a fiver about 5 years ago (it was my uni kettle lol) and its still going strong. Our toaster was Robs before we moved in its a Morphy Richards one that beeps when the toast pops up! He bought that about 4 years ago and we've had no bother with either of them, they don't match though but until we own a house of our own rather than rent I don't think I'm too concerned about matching stuff lol xx

It's so weird if you look on amazon reviews, the blue ice has 27 5* reviews but 35 1* reviews - mostly from people who initally loved it, then realised it had the leaking problem! Should have been a product recall I think. They're so pretty though... lights a-plenty

i dont have a toaster anymore, mine made my electric meter flash like crazy i use the grill (which is also electric )

They were not cheap, but I got them since before I met James (about 6 years ago) and they are still going strong xx

i have a 'lean mean boiling machine' and a 'lean mean toasting machine' george foreman, never had any probs in the 4 years iv had them...although im not sure on prices x

Just have a regular stainless steel electric kettle made by GE that I love, and our toaster is built into our microwave. It's funny because whenever we have guests, they spend a good portion of their morning looking for our toaster!

It is FANBLOODYTASTIC - cos I drink lots of tea and Dan is at home so he does too.
I was forever ever reboiling the stupid kettle cos I'd forget I had turned it on...this one you bung your cup underneath, press the button and dont need to stand or listen to when its boiled!
Saves energy too as it only boils the amount of water you need!

We always filter the water first with the Brita - and so have never needed to descale it, but even if you need to its done just like a normal kettle!

We got them just over a year ago and they are still fine - although we tend to have to replace our kettle fairly often because we have ridiculously hard water. xx

The kettle's not really worth that much I think but it has pretty lights (blue on stand-by, red when boiling) and is a v.quick boiler - and the offer was a matching half-price toaster; so that evens out the kettle!
Will see how it goes though, the lid isn't a very snug fit so may still need to exchange to a different one.

But - by the time hubby took our faulty ones back, exchanged for these, bought me an arched pillow and bought two replacement covers again for the new toaster & kettle - they still ended up owing us!! About £15 straight back on our card (was expecting vouchers) bonus
