but what is the point in asking me what to get hannah for her birthday and then not bothering to get the thing that I suggest?

mil (isnt it always her Rolling Eyes ) asked what she could buy her. I know shes strapped for cash so said theres a handy manny scooter shes always looking at in the disney store which I know she wont be able to go yet but she likes being dragged around on Laughing so anyway it was only 20 quid so suggested that. she got her a pop up tent which she already has and a big box of dressing up clothes. which is a great gift but then she said "oh steph theres a bride costume in that box which I know you probably wouldnt agree with but I just bought it anyway" WTF?????? why would I not agree with. not only that she actually did think I wouldnt want it for her and STILL bought her it.

oh also she was saying things to hannah all night like "what age are you hannah.TWO?" and when hannah said yes shes like "OH MY GOD SHES SO CLEVER" I was like what because she said yes? "what colour is that hannah.RED?" and so on and so on! Laughing

and my friend who normally spends about 30-40 quid on her asked me what to buy her and I said look you spend a fortune on her - she needs a pair of wellys and there is a pair in barrats for 8 quid that are nice if you want to buy them but dont buy anything else. she brought up a huge bag of primark clothes. I do shop in primark but I dont really like much of what shes bought and shes probably spent a lot of money by the amount she got her. oh and no wellys.

I totally appreciate what they bought and everything but why ask then just go and buy something completely different to what I suggest? its not like they didnt have enough for what I asked. they spent more than the gifts I suggested cost GRRRRR!!

oh but on a totally lovely note my ohs brother has basically ignored hannah since she was born and has recently been visiting more and he has built up a relationship with her gave her 200 quid in a card Shocked he also took me aside and apologised for the way he had acted. this is the first time he has even bothered to get her anything for birthdays, xmas or when she was born. it was the apology that I appreciated more than they money but it was a really nice thing to do!

I didnt know what to say to that bride comment. I was thinking is this what she actually thinks of me? that I wouldnt let my child DRESS UP as a bride? its not like she brought up an actual husband for her.

I know michelle Im writing this rant and thinking at least they bought her something and came to visit I really shouldnt moan. at least they care about her and love her. but it just bugs me. I wasted about three minutes of my life telling them what to get her. I wont get that three minutes back Laughing

This happens with mine &oh's family too. I appreciate whatever is bought but it's more annoying in that they say they will buy that thing so i don't tell anyone else to get it then they don't buy it so i end up having to buy it myself. Ah well.. it was lovely of your oh's bro to apologise and give Hannah all that money.
As for the weird wedding costume comment, my mil comes out with weird stuff like that too...

its a nightmare and gets worse as the kids get older, we always give people a theme.
that seems to work better than the exact presents request

but nice of ohs brother

My MIL has done the same in the past. For example I told her Caitlin needed pj's for her bday in July (caitlin ave size at 1 so id thought she would get 12-18mth winter pj's), she bought summer pj's aged 18-24mth. Wont fit til next spring.

I know money is tight for MIL & Im grateful for any gift but I totally understand frustration at thinking you are getting something & then not. My FIL & his partner are fab though & listen to what Caitlin needs, when we said we couldnt think of anything for this xmas they gave us £30 to get her shoes of our choice from Clarks to wear.

Your OH's bro sounds lovely, he must have matured. Really dont get the wedding dress comment. Is she hinting something about you and OH? Are you engaged/married?

This really bugs me! When i was pregnant i told everyone not to buy any clothes for Tayla as we already had far to much as it was and living in cyprus it was too hot to even wear any clothes.....so they sent stacks! Shocked Laughing
Im really worried about xmas, i doubt any one will even ask me what to get her but i hope they use their noggings and dont get loads of big toys as we just havnt got room for anymore!

snoopy we are not engaged or married but shes never really been pushy in that way so I dont think it was a hint or anything. she wouldnt be so sneaky she would just say it.

I honestly think she just thinks im that strict. when hannah was 7 months old we were having real problems weaning her and my mil gave her a huge slab of shortbread because it was just a plain biscuit. we had a huge fight about it and she called me a paranoid mess of a mother or something along those lines. since then she says things like this but its mostly about food such as "is hannah allowed to have this yoghurt" and makes a big point of reading the ingredients to me?
I think the bride comment might have something to do with this.

which parent can honestly say they would be happy with someone feeding their 7 month old baby who had only been eating solid foods for 1 month a huge sugary biscuit the moment your back is turned. plus the fact it was her first treat she hadnt even had a dessert yet because we were struggling so much with the savoury Rolling Eyes
