Some of you may remember me posting about having toothache and being scared of the dentist.
Well the toothache is getting worse, its agony and Ben has just rang the dentist and made me an appointment for the 18th Nv.
I havent actually been to a dentist for myself for 11 years and i didnt have any work done then cause i was too scared and very pregnant so they asvised me to leave it till i had the baby. Luckily i have always had god teeth.

I have just cried at the thought of even going for a check up its made me realise that over the years that it has turned into an irrational fear. I just dont know what to do. I know i need to go cause i am in agony but i am so scared. I felt myself panicking just at the thought!!!

Mara, i can understand this as i am a bit the same! Honestly you will be fine. I would say that 18th Nov is a long way off if you are in pain and it is also giving you more time to worry about it!

FOcus on the thought that they are only going to look in your mouth and that they will not do a thing without asking you first. It may be worth you checking that the dentist are sympathetic to nervous patients as mine are really nice and very patient which makes it much easier!

if you are in pain i would suggest a litle trip to emergency dentist or a and e ,,, may need some antibiotics to clear an infection hun / x x

I think waiting till the 18th is too far off to be seen hun. I understand the fears of seeing the dentist, but I can assure you with pretty much 100% certainty that you will be so glad to have gone in. Dental offices now have changed quite a bit, and they pride themselves on being pretty much pain free. I cannot tell you how many times I've had to sit and calm the patient down from almost hyperventilating. When even just doing a cleaning, I would be so extra gentle and take breaks to allow them to feel assured and relaxed. Everything was done at the patients pace and it was imperative that we regained their trust. Most people have had a horrible experience as a child and it imprinted a negative experience that can last a life time.

Here's what I'd suggest hun:

Find a dentist that is fairly new in the profession, about 5-10 years in, as they are more up to date as far as equipment and patient touch.

Explain the them your fear, they will totally understand and go the extra mile for you to ensure you have a positive experience.

Now..the pain checklist. You may need to go in as an emergency to resolve this immediately.

Which tooth is it?

1- Is there swelling?
2- Sensitive to hot and cold?
3- Did you break or fracture a tooth?
4- How long have you noticed the pain in the tooth?
5- Is this a lost filling or crown?
6- Describe the pain as best as you can.

Remember, the longer you wait, the worse it can get and even just going on anti-b's isn't enough.

Jen i didnt realise you knew about this stuff chick.

Its been aching on and for for a few months now but its pretty much all the time now. Its the back tooth next to my wisdom teeth (i have all 4 wisdom teeth) the gum is a bit swollen ans the bit of gum between the teeth is really sore.

It feels like a dull pounding, i actually feel like i could rip the godamn thing out. I had 2 co-codamol but it still aches

Tooth pain is unlike anything. It holds its own! Been there myself toots! I would take a guess and think of three things that may have to occur. Without seeing you or looking at dental xrays I'm just gonna take a guess. The gum tissue being swollen leads me to believe that you defo have an infection. It could be from something embedded into the tissue itself like a piece of food..popcorn was usually the culprit in my experiences. Could also be a cavity, a deep one, that may require a root canal to resolve. In worst cases, sometime an extraction may be necessary, but they will probably not do any of it until you have been on anti-b's for at least 3-4 days in. Also, because you mentioned its near the wisdom tooth area, it could very well be an impacted tooth. Those wizzies are THE MOST horrible teeth ever! Bacteria traps and most dentists recommend that they are all removed. You will defo need something stronger for pain relief because the pain does go the very core of you. If you have a good dental rinse, use it..for now, if not..warm salt water will work. Avoid brushing the area, as it will just cause more inflammation and irritation, but keep it clean and free from any more food debris. If you cannot be seen now by a dental professional, go into a clinic and they will quite possibly write you up something more suited for your type of pain. Most offices over here set aside time at the end of the day for emergencies. See if you can get in just for a quick xray and exam, so they can set up the appropriate treatment plan for you. Don't wait. xxx
