I had a 'borderline' result on my last smear test and was supposed to go back for another check in May, but I fell pregnant, so they are holding it off until after baby is born. Tell her not to worry. I did loads of research on it and they may look at burning the ends of the cells. A painless procedure which is really common. Statistically, for it to go from slightly abornomal to full cancerous takes approximately 5-10 years untreated (I read that somewhere when I was looking) so tell her not to worry. I know a few people who have had it done (including my dad on his prostate, or something) and all has been totally fine. Its just a precaution xxx

I've had one abnormal smear when I was 27, and had to go back to get re-tested, which was more evasive than just a routine pap. The tests came back normal...and hoping that her's will be as well. xxx

I am glad she is going in for further analysis hun. Keep her positive and strong, even if it is bad news, Cervical cancer if caught early..you mentioned stage one..is very treatable. I'm hoping it's nothing but a flub up on lab tests! Hugs to you and your friend hun! xxx

heya, i had this when i was about 22, i had 2 smears which were both abnormal, and stage one (cin1 or something i can't remember), i was then sent to the local hospital for a biopsy and it had changed to level 2 (so still pre-cancerous, not actually cancerous). it's really common, if your sister needs to have a biopsy tell her to take some paracetamol before as it's quite sore. after my biopsy i had laser treatment where the top layer of cells is sort of burned off (again, not comfortable, but really not as awful as it sounds). you then get smears every 6 months for i think it's 3 years, then every year so you are observed for a long time. i have had all of my results completely fine since i was 23 - and none of the treatment affected my pregnancy/labour. none of what i had was comfortable, but not painful, it was necessary at the time and i am so grateful that the cells were caught early because they could have become cancerous by now. it's also common to have a biopsy/next smear come back totally fine and they will just keep an eye on it. i totally panicked at first, but was in the middle of finals so just had to go with what i was told and hope for the best. i hope she is ok, treatement is usually really simple and mine only took less than an hour each time

I was due a smear test in April but they said they would do it 6 months after bubs was born but they're not wanting to do it yet because they don't know if I am preg or not. I usually have mine on my birthday every 3 years (makes remembering the date easier) I had an abnormal one come back but they did it again and it was ok (they think a bit of period was left over that'd affected it) 6 months later they did it again - all clear, they did another 6 months after that just to check again and that was also all clear. My mum had the lazer thingy she said it felt like a stingy hot poker type sensation but she then went on to carry twins and a singleton pregnancy and has been fine since. It sounds like it has been caught very early and at this stage the outcome is very positive xxxxxxx
