| we have a free flow cup as forced upon us by the h.v but eli seems to glug at it and quite often ends up coughing and spluttering and giving me a heart attack...
we only use it for cooled boiled water at food time, but want to keep offering a cup, im not that happy to keep using this one just yet!
would a sippy cup be ok to make the transition with? my nerves can't take it! or any other suggestions???
oh, and wtf is a magic cup??? http://www.mothercare.com/Philips-Avent-200-Magic-Blue/dp/B003ZDHL6K/sr=1-21/qid=1289566793/ref=sr_1_21/279-1773300-8889450?_encoding=UTF8&m=A2LBKNDJ2KZUGQ&n=42865041&mcb=core |

| Aw hun, it's a mindfield isn't it? As for the magic cups, I'm assuming they are non spill (VERY handy) but would mean that Eli would have suck to get the water out (which I don't see a problem with myself). We always used the TT first cups (free flow) for Libby when she was small and she did get used to them.... eventually, but then would make a mess so went for non spill. I think HV's change their mind every blinking minute what you should give them so really you decide hun, he's your baby, you know best xxx |

| Thomas always had a free flow cup (the same one Eli has) and it took him ages to get the hang of it so I decided to get Hannah one like this: (in pink) She is doing great with it. The handles come off and fit onto her bottles too so she can hold them as well which she is very keen on doing at the mo excuse the 'mummy's little boy' bib and blue highchair - recycling - bless her xx |

| hahaha aw poor hannah, she is destined to be a blue girl maybe i should stop being a chicken then and keep going with the free flow...eli has no trouble picking it up and drinking from it, he just does it very fast! i was amazed that the first time we gave him it he picked it up and got on with it and he doesn't have bottles anymore so don't want to put him back if you know what i mean... i thought maybe the sippy/no spill one might help slow him down but i don't want to get him back into the habit if he can manage to just drink...i don't really mind water all over the place, it saves putting him in the bath haha joking hm! |

| Sounds like he is doing brilliantly hun, I would stick with it. Hannah doesn't pick hers up herself - will only do it if I put it in her hands for her. Top marks to Elijah! well done little guy! xx |

| I've got a doidy cup which my mum recommended but Stephen manages to make quite a mess with that even though he's good at drinking from it! I got a free cup from the children's centre then got told on my weaning course that I shouldn't be using those types of cups becaus they can damage teeth It's all so complicated! |

| If you want to go with a valved cup, that is perfectly fine and I really recommend the one Debs shown, they are brill and it doesn't take a lot of sucking to get the water out either (as some i've found really hard..have had to pre-test ya know ) The only reason that the HV encourage the free flow ones is for when they are having juice..as the sugers etc stick to the teethies more when they have to suck which can lead to tooth decay..but for water, I don't see a problem. Me personally offer juice in free flow and water/milk in sucky cups lol, but we are phasing out his suckys and just keeping the one next to his bed cos otherwise it'd be all over his bed |
