my perfect little eater has, for about 3weeks now, started having major meltdowns and refuses to eat his meals

in the last 4days he's eaten only 1 full meal besides breakfast...he rarely snacks between meals so i know he's going to be hungry but will scream for an hour rather than eat at all

i really don't know what to do, i had it so easy up until a couple of weeks back! lol

Its quite common for toddlers to hit this stage am afraid. All I can suggest is offer little and oftern..he will eat if he's hungry.

If you have a looksy at the Fussy eaters sticky at the top of the toddler section it may give you some hints and tips and just to reassure you your not alone.

Do you find he drinks a lot? it maybe that he's confusing hunger for thirst and filling up on juice 1st. I found Moo did this so now I have to monitor his fluid intake and offer food/snack before a drink.

nope zee, he doesn't drink much, he loves fruit shoots so when i give him one he'll drink about half, throw it about a bit and not drink for the rest of the day except maybe a sip or two every time i offer it

Ahh ok. Maybe just a grazer then. Its really worrying but its surprising how little they live off at this age.
I did post a link on Debs' post just below that was really helpful and kinda sets your mind at ease too about the amount they do eat.
Just keep offering little and often and not to make a fuss if he doesn't eat it but loads of praise when he does Wink

I think the best thing is to not let it get to you... Tyler doesn't eat sometimes and the more I try to feed him the more annoyed he gets.

Kenty - will Lewis try to feed himself if you give him his own spoon? this works most of the time with Tyler I give him one spoon and he thinks he's feeding himself then i can sneakily feed him Smile

How do you do meals? Do you all sit together and eat or do you do them on their own?

Izzy eats much better when we all sit and have a meal at the table, it takes longer and she eats less if I give her the meal on her own and sit with her, and another thing maybe to try is to have a bowl of food in the middle and everyone takes turns to take what they want and put on their plate.

we always sit at the table for meals and he seems to hate it...lastnight he screamed for half hour yet again so i let him down from the table and he came back to me begging for the food...yet if i tried to put him back at the table her went off on one

tonight we went out to eat at morrisons(so posh! hehe) and again he threw a paddy so went to bed only having eaten half a meal

fussy lil bugger!! lol

Izzy started to get really bad with yoghurts! I wouldn't let her feed herself cos she ends up wearing it...and she would have a paddy, try to get out of the chair and scream...I just ignored it and kept asking if she wanted it. Until she stopped but still didnt want it - more just to be awkward cos she loves them!

That happened for a few days and she ended up with no yoghurt...now she realises she wont get the yoghurt so although she puts up a small amount of fight she will actually sit and let me give it to her...so I win hahahaha

Im just wondering if you just let him sit there til he stops and then offer the food again, and if he doesnt want it then put him down...don't give him any til next meal - do the same, I reckon his fighting will get shorter and he will realise he should eat...obviously a 'home' jobbie lol can you imagine the looks you'd get out and about!?

I had similar problems with Aimee at the same age and basically had to give her finger food and leave her to it. It went on for about a month and then she snapped out of it x

tonight we left the telly off in the background(lily-ann eats better with tv on in the background) and we got through half a meal without any problems, then he decided he wanted to feed himself with the spoon...bless him, he had it the right way round, dipped it in his food and then sucked it clean...but it was spag bol so did him no good Laughing
