do humidifiers contribute to mold?

just wondering. since we have been using the horrible storage heating my eyes have been really dry, but we also get mold on the window ledges and cupboards so would a humidifier make it worse??

they take the mositure out of the air so I imagine it would make it better

no they help make it better, my brother had a problem with mould in there place so they brought a humidifier to help it x

how on earth does that work? i thought they sort of wettened the air....maybe the word is moistened...

humidifier - moistens air
DEhumidifier - dries air

The first will deff contribute to mould, the second is supposed to combat it.

Humidifiers are often recommended for little ones though - esp. when they have dry coughs or colds to help keep the air moist scratch

Do the storage heaters have a filter and/or are they openable (word issues too Laughing

) to clean out? If there's dust or mouldy spores in there, it could be contributing - a bit like air con. xx

they seem to be attached to the walls fairly firmly (they are ollllddd) but there is a bit of mould on the window ledges again so i need to go round with bleach

a humidifier keeps moisture in the air a dehumodifyer takes it out, we had a dehumidifyer in our mouldy old flat and we would take out nearly 3L of water a day best £100 i ever spent x

After you've been with bleach, put a few drops of tea tree oil in with some mild disinfectant (milton / antibacterial spray) and wipe too. Anti-fungal properties Wink

Google moisture traps - I heard of them on here on a thread started by Susan about condensation! - can get them in cheap hardware shopes or similar for a couple of pound xx

We bought one that pre-sterilizes the water. The unit is embedded with silver molecules that helps to eliminate mold and bacteria from forming. I am totally getting into silver as you ladies can tell! LOL!

Here is the unit for those interested in it, there are also smaller units for baby's rooms. Also, investing in an air purifier helps in killing those dang mold spores!
