Took Caelyn to the Pitt Rivers museum in oxford today, she had a fab day.
She loved the bugs best - think we have a budding gil grissom on our hands. She kept peering in the displays going WOW! She loved the feel of the rocks as well but was a bit underwhelmed by the dinosaurs lol. It was a fab day out punctuated by lots of animal noises from her at every stuffed animal or animal model we walked past lol. She quite liked patting the donkey and cat they had out on display. The fossils also interested her, was quite impressed with her when she saw a fossil of a fish and started doing her open and shut mouth she does to our fish as she worked out what it was immediately even though it was an imprint on rock. She was less impressed by the anthropology than the natural history but i liked the shrunken heads!!! We ended up staying 3 hours with a break for lunch and i really thought she'd lose interest but she took every single lil bit of it in.
It was a family day so stuff for her to do too. She sniffed a petrified star fish which was funny as she didnt like it, she 'helped' uncover fossils in a sandpit (meaning she covered up whatever the other kids were uncovering), had a go at mixing up plaster of paris to make a p/o/p fossil which we got to take home (and is being painted for oma and opa for xmas) and had her photo taken with her head through a board with a sea animal painted on it. She also got to hold a fossilised coral, fossilised star fish, sea sponge and some bones (which she tried to chew).
And it cost us a fiver! (and thats only cos we chose to make a donation). Brill day
