Why do people see fit to use the phrase "I've done/had/eaten/kissed/taken x-y-z and I'm fine / baby's fine / had a great labour / long life"??!!!.



That means absolutely and positively JACK all!!!

Of course - if it's said in the context of some useful advice and weighing up both sides of a discussion then crack on - but it properly winds me up when people think it's the bottom line on something.... moreso when it's something to do with pregnancy and/or babies maybe?! (I shan't get started on smoking when pg bints...)

I've probably said similar myself - but at least I'd hope to follow it with 'that's just my experience' or similar...

This is my number one annoyance at the moment! I gave up smoking when I got pregnant (started again so I'm having to give up again) and the amount of people who have said to me well I smoked all the way through and my baby is fine is unbelievable, I've even had people suggesting that I shouldn't bother giving up this time because of what happened to Ollie

Ummm yeah unfortunately I was unlucky but like I'm really going to risk anything with this baby! If anything does happen at least I'll know it was nothing to do with me and I gave both my babies the best chance at being healthy!

I think saying "I smoked whilst pg and my baby is fine" is on a par with saying "I pushed my baby in her pram across a three lane motorway at rush hour and she is fine" erm yeah thanks for that but I'd rather not take the risk all the same!

I have friends who smoked whilst pg and not one of them isnt truley thankful that their baby was born healthy. I understand smoking is an addiction that some people find harder than others to crack. So long as they try hard and admit that IT IS harmful to unborn babies then fine. It's the dimwits that don't give it a second thought coz "so and so did it and their baby is fine" that pee me right off

I am guilty of saying it now and again when trying to give reasurance if someone is worried but like you I do tend it back it up with "in my experience" etc
