Is that right? How long does it take? Id say my freezer is small-average sized.

I did it last year when we 1st moved in but it was in the garage and I just left it off for a few days and left it do its itself

Yes that's it! It depends on how warm the room is, it will take the best part of a day to do, if you have a steam cleaner then that will defrost it really quickly. You can use a hairdryer too, although it's a bit dangerous, so don't get it wet!

we cheat and use a hair drier ,,, i made the mistake of leaving mine to defrost over night once and thought a bathsheet would do

I turn it off, put bowls of hot water on the shelves and use a hairdryer and its done in 10mins, just be careful!

I boil the kettle, pour the water into a washing up bowl then leave it and use an ice scraper to pick bits off as they are melting. If you have frozen food left wrap it in loads of newspaper and put into a cardboard box, things will stay frozen for ages (an hour or 2 maybe more?) xx

Hairdryer all the way. oh and depending on how frozen it is an scraper to 'help' it along

I have never had to do mine? Why would you need to defrost it?
Is it something you sposed to do regularly? Cos its never empty enough anyway

Depends how old it is Lisa. If its an older version they tend to get full of ice especially if you dont turn them up or down depending on how much food you have in it. But the newer ones are usually frost free x

Thanx for advice. Didnt get round to doing it today as Caitlin decided a nap was uncalled for . Pain though as freezer is almost empty but we're going to Tesco now so will be full again tonight, only good thing is with this weather I reckon i could just leave the stuff on the back door step for an hr-2 if I used the hairdyer (liked that tip ) and it would be fine.

Its only the small top shelf and element at top thats covered in snow stuff. The 2 bigger drawers are clear. Id love a frost free freezer. Defrosting the freezer for xmas was a tradition in my childhood

Anyway off to Tesco now, remembering to put a coat with a hood on Caitlin tonight- dont want her coming home in a plastic bag again!

You've made me feel better Amy! I was feeling a bit scummy only doing it once a year Suppose it depends how good your freezer is, ideally I think mine should be done every 6mths or so by the looks of it.
