Does anyone have a Mei tai sling? (or know anyone with one?)

If so, what do you think?

They are for babies to toddlers and was thinking of getting (or maybe making) one.

After the trek onto the shops today I need something other than a pram so that he can walk a small distance but I can carry him hands free from time to time too

We have a rucksack-baby carrier from Mothercare (pics on Fb) Hayden loves it and is not too heavy on your back think it's up to 3 yrs too

I was avoiding getting a rucksack one as I just want something that will fold easily in my bag when not needed. My friend has a rucksack one and she has real trouble accessing her LO when she's on her own..looks like hard work to me getting it on and off.

Thanks Mari, i'd seen your add but ideally I want one that spreads the weight evenly, I have got dodgy hips so its not good to have him on just one hip.

no worries, i found it a bit lopsided too - hubby liked it but we ended up getting a rucksack one which i find better - its more central but a total arse to get on and off haha

I've not heard of these but like the sound of them, might get one myself x

I know lots of ladies who like the mei tai types - its not the kind I like though

I have a a fleece pouch which is very convenient, just pull over head, slot baby in and you are away
Also have a ring sling, slightly more fiddly as needs tightening

Both are good as can carry on hip when they too heavy, mei tais are front aren't they? Now unless you are way stronger than me - theres no way you want to be putting Moo on your front - hip is much easier - I can carry Izzy on the hip and she doesnt seem to weigh much at all.
I know you say about your hips - I have bad hips too and to be honest it doesnt make them any worse as the weight is spread across shoulders and back

What size are you? I could send you the fleece one to have a go with if you like? See how your hips hold out before deciding?

I had a moby with C which is like a mei tei but the long wrap with no square area. Now i loved it for how much of the weight it took off my back but it was a faff to wrap and unwrap and though the mei tei looks simpler id bet you wouldnt wanna use it in the street. Also like Lisa i wouldnt reccomend you put Moo on your front you would need to learn to use the hip or back carry with it.

This time round im getting a close baby sling which is cloth like the moby/mei tei so has the same forgiveness on your shoulder but adjust by means of a ring and is meant to be the best compromise between cloth and 'normal' slings. Might be worth you looking. Alternatively theres the hippy chick seat

I was looking at the mei tai because its versatile in the respect it goes front and back and easy enough to pop on myself.

I'd have thought the big old ruck-sack type ones would be better but they might be more tricky to cope with singlehanded! x

Yer, it'd be easy to pop him in on my own. Like I said my friend has the back carrier rucksack type ones, its not even one of the biggest on the market, but it just looks so difficult and she does struggle. She has to put her LO in first and strap her in then she has to pick her and the frame up in one (not an easy task) when i'm not there she has to resort to sitting on the floor, getting into the harness etc then attemting to stand up lol, tis funny to watch hehe << am so mean

How do you find carrying Moo on your back at present? I only because I know I'd struggle, if I wasn't pregnant! If it's a snow issue have you a sledge as an alternative? Or I'm sure someone ages ago menitoned a fold-up or carry-able pushchair for ad-hoc use.
Other than that if you're willing and able you could give it a go! Sure you could knock up one yourself on sewing machine though x

He'd be no probs on the back, i'd rather have him on the back tbh. It wouldn't be for long distance..and probably more than likely get more use when its snowing etc. I went to the shops today with my biggest pram and I nearly died never again. Its just impossible to get out and I desperately need something, I think i;m gunna knock one up myself and see how it goes, have found a great tutorial, should be fun lol
