| I just saw something that really pees me off. A woman just got off my bus clearly heavily pregnant and the next thing a cigarette is in the mouth. This really winds me up.
I know smokers say its and addiction but seriously you choose to pump the chemicals into your body your baby doesn't have that choice.

| I smoked a bit when pg. Prob 3-4 a day the first 12 wks (pre pg was about 15-20 a day), then 1-2 a day til about 20 wks... then I quit completley till about 30+ wks and then the last few wks had 1-2 a week. I found it so hard to give up. I was so ashamed and I became so devious about it, lying to my mum, Stuart and probably myself tbh. I never smoked in front of anyone, well I smoked in work the 1st few wks and I know people wernt impressed. After about 10 wks I only did it on my own or at my best friends house (Id drive to areas I knew no one and smoke in car, then spray myself and chew gum, drive with windows down, buy a car airfreshener every week ) . I quit again from about 37wks - she was 8wks old... and then having the odd one started and now im back to being a smoker again. I REALLY hope if im lucky enough to get pg again I would have the strength to stop. I too dont like seeing pg women smoke, but as I did it myself I cant judge. Plus if you see someone smoking I think people assume they are smoking 10-20 a day when maybe they are having a weak moment and havent smoked in weeks. Its a tough one for me as I agree its wrong but then I did it |

| i think its easy for non smokers to judge. i know i cracked up at my sister for not even trying to stop or even cut down. i think folk forget, every one is an individual and its their choice. this makes an interesting read http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/health/article3365637.ece |

| I used to smoke but was a social smoker so didn't find it tough stopping and haven't smoked in years. I agree awla thats its an individual's choice but the baby doesn't really get a say do they. |

| no baby gets a say, or child. its up to the individual to make the choice. even when born. eg.. my sister smokes in the same room as her child, 3 days younger then ben.. where as i dont allow it, in front of any of my kids. |

| I wasnt going to get into this discussion, but i dont think its anyone right to judge another person in this way. So i will just write my opinon. We all know its the wrong thing to do but i hate it when people are judgemental and make others feel bad about themselves for their choices whether its right or wrong. I am sure 99% of women who smoke whilst pregnant dont do it with the intention of harming their baby. Some are ignorant and probably know no better and some find it very difficult to give up regardless of whether they are pregnant. Obviously there are people out there who dont give a shit, they are the ones to be judged maybe but you cant put everyone in the same catagory x |

| Snoopy people like you I have sympathy for, I am a smoker myself, not at the moment because of being pg, but I have no doubt that ill probably go back to it, in fact I think the only reson I managed to give up with Ollie was because I was so severely sick. WIth this one obviously I've got the scare factor of what happened to Ollie to rely on whenever I feel like a fag.
People who try to give up, I understand, People who can't give up, I understand!
IN fact even people who dont want to give up but know its wrong so do it in secret I can understand, It's the ones who brazenly do it in public that baffle me |

Hunny i am not just getting at you. Parenting is full of guilt as it is and when other people have opinions about how things are being done its even worse. I just dont think we should judge people for how they choose to live their lives xx |

| like ur own parents, they are the worst!! works for me the link :/ the jist is... its not as harmful as they first thought, weight ratio stuffs and goes on bout other factors form diff "social statuses/poorer areas" The information includes the mothers’ smoking habits, information about their families, and the birthweight and gestation period of the children. Analysis of the data shows that smoking throughout pregnancy reduces birthweight by 5.6 per cent, and the gestation period by just over a day. But when the results are corrected for other factors, such as diet, lifestyle and alcohol, the effect of smoking on birthweight drops to 1.8 per cent and the reduction in gestation becomes insignificant. The study also finds that, contrary to the normal belief that damage is done early in pregnancy, it is the final third that matters most, because this is when babies gain the most weight. |

| Interesting! Caitlin was 8lb 1oz even though the numptys scared me that she had stopped growing and would be 6lb max, not due to smoking, because of high bp and suspected uterine growth restriction due to womb stopping growing at 34wks.... I was 7lb 11oz and Stuart was 9lb something. Caitlin kind of in the middle of us, well closer to me. |

| I think this is a hard one, its easy to judge when you are not in that persons shoes.
i was lucky enough to stop as soon as i got my BFPs but i have started again when E was 1 week old, i still BF BUT have researched it and dont smoke before i feed, have clothes to smoke in and try not to smoke if i know i am going to handle her within 30min or so. stress of my parents and E being a very demanding baby contributed to me starting again but i found if very difficult for the last few weeks of my pregnancy so i suppose i was looking for an excuse.
i didnt get involved on th FB group on bashing smokers because i know people who smoked and tried to stop and i dont feel its appropriate to generalise.

| I think its a tricky one, i dont smoke but neil does and ive watched him try and fail at quitting more times than i can count, this time hes done a month using prescription tablets. I suppose pregnancy or no that awful addicting pull must still be there. I guess all i could say is if i was preg and a smoker id do my damndest to quit but if i was still struggling with 1 a day or watever i def wudnt do it in public |

| Last time neil went cold turkey i threatened to leave him after 2 1/2 days, time before that he made it ten and his mother BEGGED him to smoke again. The NRT makes him sick. This time when he said he was doing it again i ordered him to doc as hes tried cold turky, NRT, hypnotherapy the lot. Champix has done the trick, hes a lil moody sometimes but thats it though they have given him the mouth ulcers and bleeding gums it stopped after 1 day thus far so hopefully thats it, hes got 8 weeks left on the course |
