my mum has toys at hers too but they are ones i have given her for her house, even though when we are there gracie would rather play with a pot of 1 and 2p's, pan lids and tea bags or a duster and she goes round cleaning anything and everything she can - mum normally has to go round behind her cleaning up the mess gracie made cleaning lol

You see my Mum buys Amelia tons of stuff, I mean really spoils her but then I'm an only child and we don't have much family. But she brings things for her to keep here and buys all sorts of stuff to have at hers too but never christmas or birthday prezzies. I think that's what's annoyed me. Don't get me wrong she's got way to much stuff here to play with but she's not even got one tiny thing to bring home!

That is a little odd. My mum has bought C an art centre thing for crimbo and its staying at hers but then its something we decided between us cos C sees my mum at least twice a week and if my sis takes her for a week while sometimes more she half lives there and has a whole 2nd set up there-clothes, bowls, cups, toiletries and toys so i neverhave to take a thing with me when i pop over just her. And if C is taken by a toy while shes there she just takes it home at end of day and it either goes back next time or something of mine ends up over there so toys are always changing at both houses. In fact if i cant find something at home its usually a good bet its a mums, yesterday i managed to leave her hat and sunglasses plus half my shopping. LOL. Plus shes also bought her clothes so she has stuff to bring home so its a bit different i think as C will get to unwrap her gifts then take something home. I think to get a crimbo present not even wrapped that she cant play with whenever she likes is unfair on a LO who cant understand

Eh, what on earth is wrong with people? They clearly dont think about what the children want and its just not fair. Poor Amelia. I would be a cow and buy her a better kitchen to keep at yours Lisa (I still have 2 weeks left to be a cow until my new years resolution kicks in, lol). My mum and MIL got Aimee loads last year, we took it all home and I split it out in 3 piles between the three houses. Most of it was things that she got 2/3 of, so she had one of everything at each house. x

My parents are the complete opposite, they've bought Libby a dolls house - a personalised one with her name on the roof, it's absolutely gorgeous and I cant wait for her to get it - but as they were buying it (online) they didnt realise they had put 2 in their trolley by mistake until they got them and because it was personalised the company wouldnt take it back!!!! They were going to keep it at theirs but I told them it's silly because if she has one at home the novelty will have worn off and she wouldnt be interested so I told them to sell it on Ebay - they got their money back just but then it got lost in the post!!! I feel really guilty about it for some reason. Anyway, your MIL sounds very similar to my inlaws - they are always getting shite from charity shops - or get this THINGS THAT PEOPLE HAVE PUT OUT TO THE RUBBISH!!!!! literally outside their house wanting to be collected by the binmen who the hell gives their granddaughter rubbish - literally??? xxxx

^ oh my goodness Susan! Did you claim back from Royal Mail? How the heck do you lose a chuffing dolls house?! Gift-getting is a right pain sometimes isn't it - it's the old 'not to be ungrateful BUT' - I mean, there are limits - why buy knackered 2nd hand or get trash???!! I've had to almost beg (i.e. very strong hints, saying about three times "it would be nice if") so that a relative will get bean a toy - they always buy clothes and "don't DO toys". But they are surely a gift for US because it means less pennies spent on clothes and one less shopping trip - I can't see children being happy with clothing come 4/5/6+ years old, I know I wouldn't have been anyway unless it's pj's plus a toy. Maybe that is verging on ungrateful... but honestly he doesn't have that many relatives who buy gifts so it's all on us mostly - and how hard can it be to buy a few pounds toy, esp. when they're this age and pleased with an empty box / wooden spoon / Christmas decoration?! xx
