I am not really experienced with cats, only really the cats we have had at the farm, so no idea if this is normal - cos it aint my cat! So tonight someone knocked on the front door and when Dan opened it a ginger cat tried to get in the door but he shssed it out. Bearing in mind we have 2 dogs, who luckily were behind the gate in the kitchen, and it must have known there were dogs cos my dogs do their poops outside and I'm sure a cat would be able to tell! Anyway he told me and I am soft so went to check if it were still there, was only a few minutes but it was still waiting and dashed in...Izzy had picked up my plate of cheese and ham so I took it off her and sat on the sofa and the cat tried to eat the ham Asked Dan to get some tuna and it wolfed down the 1st half and then had about another 1/4 of a tin (you know those small tins of tuna) Its the friendliest cat ever and Izzy has been stroking it since it arrived , its now flaked out on the sofa. I am 99% sure that last week sometime I was walking back from town and this cat ran to me in the road one along from us, but up the other end, meowing at me and at the time I thought oh no I hope its owner hasnt died and it cant get in its house (the road is bungalows mainly full of quite old people) , its also the same road (if you remember) that the last cat I took in came from (after its one owner died and the other went into a care home and left the cat) Sooooooooooooo sorry long story lol, is it normal for a cat to risk coming in a strange house that clearly has dogs? Or did it do it cos it really was starving? Its belly is all fat now, can tell its skinnier than it should be and it weighs nothing at all. It is a sparkly collar but no tag Have opened the door a few times and it shows no interest in going...so will let it stay, will have to go tomorrow and ask if anyone knows who it belongs to...the thought that someone has died and no one has noticed wont leave my mind now.

I asked Dan if it is homeless can we keep it ( I miss our ginger cat that lives at the farm) and he grunted! In fact when I 'invited' he cat in his words were 'here we go again'...cos I was going to keep the matted cat last winter if RSPCA hadn't taken her! My dogs aren't overly impressed, although Biggles must be thick as it took him 15 minutes realise there was a cat in the front room They would get used to a cat though cos they lived with Gizmo at the farm.

lol Dan knows how much I want a cat...oncfe I nearly went and got one from the cas home and was going to tell him it was stray so he wouldnt make me send it back...but I am rubbish at secrets so wouldnt have been to do it. So if it is homeless than thats ideal...but obviously not if someone died and thats why it has no home

We did at the farm too, people used to dump them I remember a particularly skinny one we called Scat Cat, it was a wicked thing that would sometimes scratch, but other than that ok! Poor thing got ran over by the horses and he died in the car on the way to the vets...I was so upset, poor Scat Cat.

hey Lisa, Adam says have a feel in the skin at the back of the neck for a chip, you can feel them under the skin, he also says if its homeless they are usually timid, he thinks its a cheeky beggar pushing his luck (like ours) can you see ribs? if so, too thin, our littlest one is very skinny and still looks like a ktten at 2 1/2 but ribs are a good way to check BTW i also thought the cat had knocked at the door

My MIL claims cats pick their owners. They have a cat and it was only after about a year of knowing her that I realised it wasnt technically hers. It belongs to a neighbour. I dont know anything about cats but imo she basically stole the cat . It started coming into their garden so she started leaving food out (knowing it was a neighbours who had another cat) and then started letting it in the house. Now it only comes to hers for food and is in the house half the day and night. Apparently the neighbours dont mind. I often wonder though if there was a vet trip necessary would she take it or be back round to previous owner I think its lovely you taking in a stray but think my MIL is a tad crazy! Oh and theres a few other cats in the area that come and sit on her window. One or two have ran in the house before too and def have owners so maybe Adam is right. Check first though, cant have a cat homeless at Christmas

| Its still here, been fast asleep on the sofa all night while I watched Fame!
I took it outside, it wont go out without me and stays by my feet
It is really quite boney on its hips and back and all over really, but the fact it has a collar means it has had a n owner at some point
Such a shame, its a lovely friendly cat.
Its staying the night cos its freezing and snowing, no way is it going out. |

Is the cat still with you hun? My cat has moved out, lol! As soon as Aimee started walking he decided to move over the road, and now has found a better house up the street. The lady came and knocked on my door a few weeks ago to ask if it was ok, lol! As long as he is happy I dont mind. I just told her to let me know if he needs to see a vet at any point so I can take him. x

did you find an owner for the cat? At least your bothering to see if there is an owner we had two cats, and then we got a dog. obviously the cats were a bit reluctant to come into the house but we knew they would come in when they were hungry... that is until the lady who lives opposite us decided to leave food out for them and so they never came back. I wouldn't have minded if she'd asked if it was ok!

I went up the road and asked if anyone knew where a ginger cat lived, but the house that had one said it wasn't missing, and the only other one people knew of was fluffy. Convo went like this 'hello sorry to bother you but do you have a ginger cat?' 'Yes' Oh right, is he home?' She looked at me like I actually wanted to speak to the cat!!!! So I might go and ask up the other road behind me tomorrow, although it seems perfectly happy here! Its house trained too! Doesn't mind dogs either, been mooching with them all day!
