Well my poor baby since she was not well just b4 xmas she has been completely out of sorts with her sleeping and eating When she wasnt very well I let her sleep alot when she wanted to and it didnt affect her night time sleeps at all and sleep is good for recovery and she went off her lumpy food but would eat certain things that were just big not lumpy (if that makes sense) Well since she hasnt wanted to do so much sleeping she has been a nightmare in bed at night she just will not settle if she wakes in the night (which she is doin every night) either me or dave have to stay in her room with her or she just screams and screams there is nothing wrong with her coz I got her up the other night to see if she needed any calpol coz the previous night I had given her some and it diodnt make the blind bot of difference anyway i got her up took her down stairs and she was full of smiles and playing and just being like it was the moddle of the day despite having 1 n half hr sleep during the day

I just dont know whats up with her the only thing i can think if is all the comotion of xmas and not being well has knocked her all out of sorts I just hope she can sort herself out coz we are just so so tired

It's probably a mix of things Hun. My youngest has been poorly and he went right off food, wasn't sleeping etc etc. just trying to get him back on track. If it's obvious there is nothing wrong I would try controlled crying as it will probably carry on if she knows she will get her own way. I know it's hard but I have had to do it myself and it works xx

There are different ways. You can either leave her for say five minutes, go in, settel her with minimal eye contact and not picking up if poss and then next time ten mins, then fiteen, and so and so on till she settles.

Or you can choose an amount of time under ten mins, say after 5 mins and go in every five mins settling as above until she goes off.

I did the second way as Sophia was younger and it worked really well but a word of warning, it is really hard listening to them try and you need nerves of steel. Takes about a week to get the message through.

We have tried mnay things and this works. however, have tried a more gentler approcah more recently which also works but takes longer.

You put them down in the cot and settle them, then stay in the room with them (i sit in a chair acroos the room from her) with minimal eye contact and not talking. Then you stay in the room (putting them back down if you need to) until they are properly asleep. You do that for a couple of nights then the next few nights, the same but sit or stand closer to the door. Each couple of nights get closer to the door, then eventually, you will be able to just walk out the room and her settle herself.

We have gone backwards witht he self settling at the mo due to colds and giving up breast fedding so Dave dong the night time bit sometimes too. Will be doing this method again soon though. I was at the stage of cuddling her for a few minutes, putting her down, walking out the room and sitting in my room, maybe going in once or twice to re-tuck her in, then her getting herself to sleep within 15 mins.

Hope that helps a bit,

MAndy xx
