my cousine had he baby boy 2 days ago, he was born with red patches on his face, they thought they were bruises from the birth, but have been told today they think its a type of birthmark. he needs to have an MRI scan because there is a posibility it is attached to his brainstems...the hv couldnt really go into detail so she will know more when she sees the specialist but has anyone ever heard of this and what will the do if it is attached to his brainstems?? x

I have a large red/pink birth mark on my leg that didnt appear until I was 6 mths. It gets larger/darker/paler depending on body temp. I did google it, and come up with a few things... but it is pretty confusing & as Im not a dr obviously it could be way off the mark, but possibly what HV wants to rule out,,, The 1st is a site explains dif types of birthmarks... http://www.birthmarks.com/HTMLArticle.cfm?Article=231 The 2nd is about AVM, which it probably isnt so please dont worry! http://www.birthmarks.us/avm.htm I hope this was helpful & hasnt upset you more xxx

My friends baby was born with this (or similar) near her eye, her brother has it all over his face Ill ask her more about it when i speak to her, but i know she had to go for tests and it wasnt just a 'normal' birth mark and it runs in the family.

You can get laser treatment on NHS in most cases but usually in your teens/early adulthood as it continues to grow & usually pointless to do in childhood. I could have got it done on my leg but it faded so much I didnt really see the point, & its only my calf. I can see how one on the face would be more upsetting. A girl I went to sunday school with as a kid had a really dark one all over one side of her face. I saw her a few years ago & it was gone. She must have had it successfully lasered at some point. I think it can take months/years to remove but in a lot of cases it is possible. x

dunno emma whats that?? well saw him today, he is gawjuss the birthmark isnt half as bad as it looked on the pic, its only one side of his face! hv has been out today again and they think its a strawberry mark, if it gets any darker then most probibly is so they just have to watch it till the appt comes through x
