At 40+2 on 3rd February, I hadnt felt Aimee move much in my belly so called the labour ward and they said to pop in to get checked.
I was put on the monitor and they decided that they were going to let me go home, until they saw that Aimee's heart rate dropped quite fast once, and as they said I was already 3cm dilated they were going to break my waters.
I wasnt in any pain and didnt feel like I was in labour at all.
So, at 10.20 pm they broke my waters.
OMFG! I wasnt expecting it all to go as mad as it did.... within 2 minutes, my OH and the midwife were scraping me off the ceiling. My contractions kicked in immediately as soon as they broke my waters, and I was having something like 1 min contractions with just a 20 second gap between them.
I dilated from 3cm to 10cm in 1 hour and 40 minutes... with lots of screaming, shouting, swearing and cra?ping during that time. Then I needed to push.
It all happened so fast, they gave me gas and air, but it didnt work, they gave me a shot of pethadine, but that didnt work either.
I spent 1 hour pushing and after accusing the midwife of lying that she could see the head, I demanded that my OH had a peek to check!
Aimee was born after exactly 2 hours and 40 minutes from start to finish.
My placenta started to break up so they were going to take me to theatre unless I could help buy pushing it out... I was quite looking forward to the thought of being knocked out but I looked over at my OH helplessly holding Aimee in his arms and figured I needed to get it out if I could. So, I pushed as much as I could and got it out.
I had severe tears and they spent 45 minutes stitching me up and then I was able to go and have a shower, as the room looked like a murder scene and I was covered from head to toe in blood.
All in all, I thought it was the worst experience of my life... until 2 days later when we nearly lost her and found out that she had serious heart problems and she had to have open heart surgery.
