yesterday i went to the bank and i took out life insurance £100k to go to jj if anything happens to me.

i felt so old taking it out even thou i am only 22yrs.


anyone got life insurance? xx

Yes, oh and I both have it (arranged by oh) I would never be sensible to arrange it especially when I was 22!

my husband got it on himself with the bank.

i thought cause i been through cancer and not long got the all clear.. anything could happen now and i dnt want jj to be left with nothing.

At first I was just doing Dan, but they advised me that if I die then he will still suffer financially as will need help with Izzy - so I will be but not so much as Dan.

I'm lucky that I get it as part of my flexible benefits at work. Dave has more than me meaning that if he kiffed it I'd be mortgage free but if I kiffed it he'd have enough for childcare and a chunk off the mortgage.

We also have personal accident insurance, some sort of permenant/terminal illness insurance (?) and group income protection.

I got it when caitlin was about 3mths old (I was 25)! My mum is very anxious about £££ and couldnt rest until I got it (maybe I should worry about my safety around her! ).

I think mine is for £100k and is payable if I die before Caitlin is 25. I think I pay about £6/7 a month and if I dont die we get nothing. I found it so complicated once I looked into it.... eg some pay out a % at end if you dont die, some pay half if you get seriously ill, others you need to pay more each month to make sure the £100k stays inline with inflation.... Im pretty sure mine will run with inflation but if I stay fit and healthy we get nada, thats what I hope happens!

We're both very well insured, I think having worked in the banking industry and seeing how it affects people when they don't have it makes me even more aware. I never forget a couple coming in to see me to check their policy and they took out life insurance but not critical illness and he had a stroke and she had cancer, so neither of them could work, they were in negative equity so we ended up repossessing eventually, I felt awful for them sitting in my office begging me not to take their house away and there was nothing I could do. That was 6 years ago now and I've never forgotton them, so I'm covered for just about everything!

I dont have a mortgage so 100k seemed a reasonable amount to get insured for, particularly as im not working at present and the payments are a 'luxury' so to speak.

Im guessing I could take out a 2nd policy if my circumstances changed in a few years, or one with a mortgage mandy?

I havent got the critical illness thing as it seemed very expensive, i might have to relook at it xx

poor poor couple.... thats wht i dont want to happen if my illness appears again and it was very bad... my insurance covers me through my cancer.

for 37years then i can renew it again after! x
