Now im not saying there is a right or wrong here, as obviously it depends on whats best for you and your baby, but just wondered which do you do/did...use jars/packets or make homemade purees or did you use a combination of both?? xx

Both. The fruits were delish as well as some of the jarred veggies..but would not touch the meats/pastas. I always made her meal first without using salt or spices and then would puree it. Sometimes would make those packet of gravies for giving it a little bit of flavour. She loved the baby cereal with fruit in it. xxx

Combination.

Partly because im a poop cook and partly due to Caitlin having milk allergy (which prob should have motivated me to cook more!), was reassuring to lift jar of hipp organic and see that it was milk and egg free and I didnt have to check lots of ingredients.

Things like mash potato, carrots, veg etc I pureed myself and froze in cubes.
Fruits it was just easier for me to buy fruit pots/pouches.jars. I found it meant I could give her a wider variety of fruits and wasnt too dear.

a mixture of both.. some times it was cheaper to get the veg jars (from4-6 months) or i used to go out n do a huge shop, steam it all, n hen blend it n freeze it... paige still has fruit pots thou..

now she has what we have.. just cut up. but it is handy to have a few jars in just in case x

Yep, mixture of both for Libby too. She loved the fruit pots/desserts in the jars but wasnt keen on the meals, I used to puree/mash the veg and them mix it with a jar or the sachets. xxx

Tayla didnt have any jars at all till we moved back to england (9months) then she would have say one every 2-3 weeks-ish?
To be honest though i actually wished i had used them more as they are handy but i felt a bit guilty, now i got to the effort of cooking all these meals that gets thrown on the floor i wish i could just crack open a jar Laughing Embarassed

at the moment we are doing a combination effort! i am using more jars than i would like to and heres my excuse (drumroll) seasonal fruit and veg, especially organic, is dire this time of year choicewise. i want elijah to try lots of things and the simplest way to do that is by jars just now - as he is getting older though he is eating more with us - and when he was little we just used cereals and really simple purees.
i always use ebm in cereal etc though and only cows milk in cooking, we also try very hard to use organic stuff for him because it tastes better Smile

I'd say 95% my own and 5% jars. We only really used jars for convernience when we were out but even then I'd more often than not take my own. Ollie wasn't a huge fan of the jars.
We did used to use some of the packets like cheese sauce/pesto/gravy etc..but when he was 6mth he just had what we had - obviously everything in moderation Very Happy
I did it really as we didn't have vast amounts of money at the time and it was just easier to just put a bit aside of what we were having and freezing portions etc

we made our own purees and stuff but when out and about we would...and still do! use the jars as they're handy and easy.

Mixture of both. If Rowan is poorly he tends not to want to chew and he won't eat soup or Nything solid. We'll get some pureed banana or apple and pear and A veg whilst he's unwell. I tried pureeing it myself but the fact it's in a jar he likes to hold it and I get some food in him.'not used them in a while though as he generally eats what we do.

i started off on jars, it was more convient and if she liked something i could then go by the veggies and make up a batch to freeze. now i do a bit of both, depending on whether i've remembered to defrost something Laughing but she gets a pudding from a jar cos we don't really do puddings

Both although when she was very small mainly pots - my thinking was that there was no way I could prepare and store a decent variety of purees - with pots she could try something different everyday

Then when she moved to lumpy stuff I started to do my own, but still had pots and did a mix

We stopped the pots when she was around 1 as she pretty much ate what we had tnen

It worked well for her because now she is a VERY good eater - doesn't fuss about anything, always willing to try something new, and old even if she spat it last time...olives and lettuce are the funniest cos she doesn't like them but chews them up everytime then says blerrghh and spits them out! Cant moan though, thats pretty much it that she wont eat.

All I can advise is don't decide til the time comes - I know of more than one person who was determined never to use a jar, then when the time came they found it really hard to find the time as their baby was quite demanding, their baby was very fussy and would often refuse the food making her feel pants about her cooking as she took it personally, she struggled on and made it quite stressful on herself and the baby for far too long rather than exploring the alternatives!

Wil only had home made. We used to make massive batches of veg, fruit and later stew then purée and freeze it in ice cube trays. When the cubes were frozen just pop them out into a bag and write on what it is (very important to do this cos one lot of green mush looks like the next).

We also did cheese sauce and gravy like this.

The really bendy icecube trays are a necessity though cos some stuff is a pig to pop out
